Default Downsizing wheels

I have a 2016 f150 4x4. I currently have the Rough Country lifted struts lift kit installed. I am running a 20x12 wheel on 35x12.5 tires. I don't like the look as much anymore of the big rim, I am looking to downsize to a 17x9 wheel while still keeping 35x12.5 tires. I have contacted Rough Country and they said that the lift kit that I have installed does not support 17 inch wheels. What do I need to do/replace to be able to fit a 17 inch wheel while still using a 6 inch lift?

Welcome.

Did they tell you why it won't accommodate a 17 inch wheel?

It's the lift spindle, some lift kits will state that 17" wheels will not clear. you may be able to either find another set of lift spindles to work with 17" wheels or find a set of 17" wheels that are made to clear those spindles. What's wrong with 18" wheels ?

They said it had to do with the size of the knuckle

Then i gotta trim like crazy which is why I'd prefer to keep the 35s, but 37s aren't out of the picture for me

you get 37's then you will need new gears to turn them.
