Default Door Caught By Wind

So, today, I opened the door on my truck (in my signature) and a large gust of wind caught it, forcing it open...HARD.

Now, when I shut the door I can see that at the bottom (outside) it appears to be misaligned, and I can hear wind noise at my left ear, upper part of the door.

Anyone else ever have this happen? If so...was it easily/readily fixed?

Feeling real stupid, and the wind noise reminds me every mile...

Man, when i saw the title of this I thought, would that be hilarious if he was in KC because its so damn windy today. I wish i could offer you anything to help. Does it look like the mounting point on the door for the hinges has deflected compared to the passenger door?

Yeah...I was actually at the Sam's Club in Raymore...
Looks like the lower mounting point was shoved in a little...which is what is forcing the upper part of the door outward.

you can readjust easily, assuming nothing is bent. I believe it is a 13mm bolt head, one on each hinge. The door will slide in/out from the cab.

Be careful when tightening, as they are aluminum threads. I don't recall the torque spec, but I just do it by hand and have no issues.

Yep, had this happen with my older F150. The wind caught it when I opened it and forced it so far the other direction it woud barley close the door again. Bent the left front quarter panel. Insurance fixed it but it never seemed to fully close. Unless I pulled the door really hard I could always hear slight road noise. Maybe yours isn't as bad.

Damn, I feel for you. Almost the same thing happened to me, but I was able to slow down the door a little, and apparently without damage, but was probably super close to have some, since it also hit the stop kind of hard, but didn't hear any cringe-worthy noises. Anyway, so what exactly gave way? A truck part, or a door part? And can it be replaced like nothing happened, or was it a welded part, requiring door replacement, or an expensive repair on the truck? Good luck, brother.

Very common occurance here in the land of wind. Most times a hinge gets bent and the lender gets a nice crease. Check with your insurance and find a good body shop.

Very windy in Wisconsin also today. These doors are huge sails. When I park on windy days, I try to park into the wind as I have a better chance catching it coming my direction that the other way. I have seen tractor doors ripped off their hinges on windy days.

An update...

Bob Allen Ford in Overland Park, KS is the best. I needed 30k service anyway, so they came by the house and picked up my truck, leaving me a loaner car. Called the next day and it was ready to be dropped back off to me. Door...completely fixed, luckily all it needed was an adjustment. Rodney in the Body Shop is amazing. Oh...no charge to me for adjusting the door.

Funny you mention this... about a week and a half ago, same thing happened to me (in WI), where the wind caught the door at the grocery store and forced it open very hard as well. The door doesn't seem "out of alignment" by any means, but I do notice a wind noise and whistle at 65+ mph. When I go for my oil change in about 2K miles, I'll mention it. I'm sure I won't be as lucky as you having it covered since my truck has 53K.
