Default Do mud flaps really work?

I have stock 20" tires and weather tech flaps. Recently it rained and I had crap all down the side of the truck from driving around town.

This weekend it snowed, the wet and sloppy snow; had crap all down the side of the truck again. To the door handles and even up to the top of the bed of the truck.

Granted I'm sure a lot of this came from other traffic around me; but I don't think mud flaps really work.

Same here. Installed the weather tech and still have crap all down the sides of the truck. I can here stones hitting the doors driving straight.

We did not install them on our 2010 Lariat the first winter. Big mistake. Added them the following spring and it reduced the spray about 70% and I never again had junk on the handles. Now for our 2016 & 2018, they went on before the first 500 miles... Had the Weathertechs on the 2016 and went with Ford version for the 2018. Both work great.

I installed the weathertechs to keep mud and stuff getting flung up into the door jamb area and rear part of the bed where it's hard to clean. Haven't had an issue since installing them. I get some stuff on my door, but that's easy to clean.

The tires are going to throw stuff up the sides of the vehicle no matter what. Mudflaps just help reduce that and help keep the bigger stuff from getting thrown up so much.

My old Ranger had Bushwacker extend-a-fender flares (which completely covered the tires) and mudflaps and it still threw stuff up the side of the truck when in anything sloppy, I just don't think you can really completely prevent it.

Question: are the Weathertech's for the rear the same as the front?

I installed OEM mud flaps when my truck was new and recently noticed that sometime recently my left front tire rolled over some fresh line paint. There was some yellow spray on the mud flap, but none on the body or step bar. They don't stop everything, but they sure help.

I found this post quite humorous. Does a piece of plastic mounted on the body in a certain position allow liquid to pass through it? No.

Does liquid go past it on the side, for example when turning? Yes.

Does said liquid then get blown on the side of the truck? Yes.

The side-spray on mine went way down after installing OEM front and rear splashguards. Having running bars/boards helps too.

My WeatherTechs helped quite a bit, especially with the snow.
