Different Keypad Code

Default Different Keypad Code

Is it normal/unusual for the keypad code that shows up when you insert both keys into the ignition in succession and the code on the card in the owner's manual?

I just noticed last night that the code that comes up in the 4" productivity screen is different from the code on the card.

Note that both work on the keypad.

You can add additional codes. Up to 5 I think. Maybe one was added by the dealer? I would delete the added code.

Something else is going on here as the card and the screen should only be showing the factory code, not a personalized code. Did you buy this new or used. My guess would be that the module had to be replaced under warranty and the dealer or original owner(if used) programmed the original code on the card as a personalized code.

Not knowing the blocked out #'s, it looks like it could be the same "pattern"? Obviously there are two #'s on each pad. The #'s OP has shown while being different are still the same button.

Do the other #'s not shown still use the same button?

Still would expect them to be the same # but it looks like it's possible it's the same pattern.

1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8. and 9-0 are interchangeable as there are only 5 buttons in the system. I can see how that was easier to do back in the day and make it appear more secure, but with today's tech I would like to see them redesign it to actually make it a 10 button system.

Simply not practical. First for the average person a 5 digit number is much easier to remember than a 10 digit number. Second it would require either much smaller buttons in the same space or a larger pad on the exterior which would look like crap. Third for this purpose a 5 digit combo offers more than adequate numeric possibilities. I have never heard of anyone trying to break into cars by standing there trying thousands of combinations. With todays tech nobody is breaking into a car with a keypad unless they have prior knowledge of the code. They will either simply pop the lock or hack the radio signal from the fob.

I did the same thing last night and noticed that mines are different also. One of the numbers is off by one digit. The card says 8 but the display says 7. The code still works since both 7 and 8 are on the same button but I wondered the same thing.
