Default Dash Cam

I temporarily installed a Black Box model G1W HD Dash Cam. It's currently using a suction cup mount below the mirror and is powered through the cigg outlet next to the USB connectors.

I am going to hard wire it in using a 12v to 5v converter and a add a circuit fuse box connector. I also got a mount that clamps to the mirror.

Cool. I've been thinking more and more about one of these since my last accident.

I recommend that anybody interested in a dash cam take a look at DashCamTalk. They have lots of good info, comparisons, and list trusted sellers that can be found on amazon and eBay.

I have mine for 2 reasons.

Just in case some road rage *** hat decides to pull in front of me and slam his brakes.

Incase of some weird stuff happens that my cam may have caught. IE Plane crash.

This is nice little cam. It cost less than 45.00 on amazon. Uses a micro sd and you can record in 3 min or 5 min loops. Fully HD. Records in .mov format. Tried to play the videos on my android phone and tablet but was very clunky.

What is with the "carpet" on your dash? What is it for? ....just curious...
And second, I have that same lure!

It saves your dash from the heat and stops the warping. It also allows my FasTrak toll tag to stay in one spot on my dash instead of sliding around.

Hey Rheimy
You dont want to know how many Crankbaits I have.

Been eyeballing the same camera.. Would love to see the mount you used and how well it works with the F-150.. (The one I keep finding looks too wide to mount to the mirror) Any feedback on the camera yet? Never have to touch it with the add-a-circuit (on/off properly)?

I don't touch it now with it plugged in the the cigg outlet. I just want to clean up the wiring. Seems to turn off ok. Turns on when the I start my truck and starts recording. You can set a time out for the video screen to go black. Here in Californastan you can get a distracted driver violation if the screen is on.

Havnt tried the new mount yet.

Thanks for the info.. I'd like to see the mount once you get it up!

I just came out to visit California.. I was the slow driver.. It was AMAZING to see the lack of drivers with a cell phone glued to the side of their head.. or in front of them.. It's as rare in CA to see someone on their phone than it is here in CO to see someone NOT on their phone...
