On my way to work this morning, listening to the radio. It was heavy traffic, with continuous starts and stops. Traffic came to an abrupt stop. I looked up in my rear view, and see this teal helmeted head moving closer and closer to my truck. Then BAM! I felt a little movement in my truck, and knew I just rear ended!
I pulled to the side of the road, hit the hazards, and got out to check on the driver of the other vehicle. I could only see the helmet going down and I wanted to make sure he didn't get run over. He got up, picked up his bike, and moved it to the side behind my truck. I asked him if he was alright...he was a little shook up still. He was fine, I snapped a pic of his insurance card and we waited until the police showed up. I called them immediately after I pulled to the side of the road, being in a no fault state, that's the first thing you do.
I think the scuff marks on the tailgate can be buffed out, but I'm gonna need a new bumper.
That was my shafty morning, how was yours?
Sorry to hear, glad everyone was ok. FYI there are a bunch of new take off rear bumpers on car-part.com that you or the body shop can buy one. I say this for two reasons first off if it's one a back order from ford you won't have to wait and also you can buy the same color so no painting is necessary just food for thought
Too bad SRG! I know the feeling! I got rear ended by a van, when my 2015 Platinum had less than 3K miles! I had stopped for a fire truck with lights horn and sirens blaring coming through the intersection. Entire 12 lanes of traffic stopped - except the guy behind me! Damage looked VERY similar. I was actually pretty impressed with how well the bumper took a lick. When I got out I expected to see the whole rear quarter panel crumpled. Instead, my bumper looked like yours, and I had a ding in the chrome tailgate plate. New bumper cover and chrome... minor paint repair actually behind the bumper. All good. But is sure is a sick feeling when it happens.
I'll be taking it in for the estimate at 2:30 today. Talked to the insurance company that is paying for the damage, and they said it was alright to source the bumper from a third party rather than Ford, since no parts are available. Thank you Courtesy1 for that info!
I'll keep updating with costs and final pics.
*EDIT*
The guy that handles the specific insurance companies claims is on vacation....so apt is now Monday.
So much for using my tailgate this weekend....
I get my truck back today. Located a new rear bumper, no problem. No hidden damage. Total estimate was around $900.
Can't wait to drop this POS "Premium" sedan off! Premium apparently doesn't equate to a reverse camera, leather seats, sunroof, or any other bells and whistles. Don't know how they can even call a 200 a "Premium" vehicle.
Needless to say, I'm very happy to be getting my truck back today.
how was the guy on the bike? Bet he is having a worse day.
Adrenaline had him on his feet right after the bike laid down. He was in shock for a few min (so was I), and I'm glad he is alright. If he would have hit me dead center, I think he would have been much worse off...and my truck may have had more damage (tailgate smashed in).
