Custom Ordering Question
First post here, but been lurking for 7-8 months in anticipation.
I want to order an F-150, at least partly because what I want doesn't really show up at dealerships. Been watching inventory (using the Ford website with a 100 mile radius setting) since last summer, especially as the 2017s started hitting lots. Basically, I want a Lariat, 3.5 Eco, Screw, Blue Jeans, and tow package, but the killer for me is getting a color called "anything but black" for the interior. Specifically, I want Camel. There was one in So Cal until a month or so ago, but it sold. I didn't want to buy it anyway as I'm not ready, but I wanted to see the whole package together to make sure.
Anyway, my question is how long you think it will take to get here once ordered. Unfortunately, and for a lot of factors, it would help a great deal if I get this at the end of May--no sooner and no later, really. I get the feeling the easy answer to this question is "it depends." The truck might be sitting ready to ship from Ford and be here in a week. And since they are doing some redesigns for 2018 (I've seen pics, so I assume it's a done deal), I'd hate to wind up limbo where '17s are gone and '18s won't be here til ???? (I saw the delays happening for people waiting for the new 3.5 Eco back in Oct-Dec.)
Anyway, Thanks,
Mike Todd

Also if you`re interested, you need to consider any factory incentives that are available right now and you can`t apply those incentives to a vehicle that`s ordered.
I`m sure you know this but i`ll mention it anyway, that Camel interior color get dirty very fast and the color of some of your clothes, especially jeans, will stain the seating surface on the Camel interior.
Hope this helps.
Sounds like me! 99% of dealer stock is black interior. I ordered blue jeans with camel and was told the process would take 6-10 weeks. It was 8 weeks on the nose from ordering to receiving. My dads truck ordered on the same day was here 3 days earlier.
Have to disagree about camel getting dirty quick, as the only thing that quickly gets dirty in my truck is the black rubber mats, but it mostly probably depends on the type of dirt in your area. Dust around here sticks out like a sore thumb on black and is invisible on the camel. I did buy a can of meguiars leather wipes to take care of the blue jean dye on the seats but it hasn't seemed to be a problem since conditioning them the first time.

The reason I say that is I remember back in 1988 when I purchased my first brand new car which was a 1989 Mustang GT. I also ordered ordered it and it took exactly 8 weeks before I received it and that`s how long my salesman told me it would take.
I guess that process has remained at Ford.
Also, that is a very nice color combination.......Blue Jeans with Camel leather.
I`ve seen it maybe 2 or three times on a dealer lot.
Order it. They can "Lock" incentives when you order and apply those when you take delivery or use the ones that are available when you take delivery. Whichever is better.
*They can also lock in a "Private Offer", which I did.

Just received my 17 157" Lariat a couple weeks ago. Took 9 1/2 weeks from order date to arrive at the dealer. Christmas shutdown was in that timeframe plus I ordered the heavy duty payload package (normally takes longer). I also ordered blue jeans
. But ordered the interior color you don't want

I've ordered almost every new vehicle I've bought and the 8-week to get an order is pretty standard - I think every order has been about that long and I've ordered from Ford, Chevrolets, Pontiac, Chrysler, etc. The one exception (and I don't want to upset you) was when I ordered a '16 KR Supercrew. I ordered it the last of January '16 and it didn't arrive to the dealership until late June '16... Fortunately I found something I was willing to buy from stock at a different dealer (I really, Really, REALLY didn't want the power running boards but I have them...). I also wanted Oxford White and have Platinum White. The hold-up on my KR was that I wanted the 600A package - they didn't build them for '16 until almost the end of model year... I guess I could have waited them out but after four months of waiting and nobody willing to give me a firm answer on when my truck would arrive (or IF it would ever arrive) so I took a refund of my deposit. It actually worked out well (money-wise) because I got what I consider a smoking hot deal - I paid less for the 601A truck than the agreed upon price for the 600A truck which had a much lower MSRP.
It's hard to get a good guesstimate of delivery date but 8 weeks is a good rule of thumb - back up 8 weeks from the date you'd like and place your order then. I'd actually allow about 9 weeks just because some dealers only order once or twice per week, not necessarily when you give them the go ahead and leave your deposit.
ALSO! I am truly not a fan of black interiors either. My work car is a Mazda and I had the choice of black, black or black leather - so I got the black. it shows dust, lint and gray hairs - that's all I see. No more black interiors for me. (The dark brown of my King Ranch is actually pushing my comfort level...though it is nice and feels great.) My previous F150 was a Medium Wedgwood Blue (similar to Blue Jeans) with a camel tan interior. I had the truck for 12 years and it was nearly new looking inside when I sold it to my neighbor. Your color choices are right up my alley! It will be a fantastic looking truck.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I'm gonna go with the eight weeks, I guess, and they probably shouldn't be shutting down '17 production in that time frame--I think we've all seen when the brand new design comes out much earlier than usual, though it's often much later than usual).
About the camel interior--is there a thread about this or is it a known issue, it getting discolored? I ask because I have an Acura with an interior and leather seating that is basically the same color. We've had it for nearly 5 years, and our oldest kid was 2 years old when we bought it and our youngest was born just after. This means we've gone through some pretty dirty years and our Acura is (um, will be "was") our main "family" transport, and it looks just fine. Is there something different about the Ford leather, or is it just like saying, well, it's a lighter color so be careful. Because I get why someone would say that, and there's a lot of validity Gabar says I probably know this, and that made me think it might be just common knowledge in the Ford/F-150 community, and I'm not quite there yet, so I just want to make sure. I will say this, as has been said, black interior, especially the carpet and cloth, shows every little speck of dust. Maybe harder to discolor, but a lint magnet for sure.
Thanks,
Mike Todd

I've had 5 vehicles with varying degrees of tan leather (as well as 1 with black leather) and never had any issues with staining. Likewise I've done quite a bit of shopping in the used car market and can't think of any times I've seen notable staining on light leather (or any sealed automotive leather for that matter). I did have some blue dye from my jeans starting to rub off on my new seats when I got the truck, but like I said, it wiped right off with a leather wipe and hasn't been a problem since. I figure that's due to the slightly rougher matte finish of brand new leather that gets a little more smooth as it wears.
I think that's just something people with black interior say.
