Unzipped the download package onto a exFAT-formatted USB.
Made sure the truck was connected to wifi using a hotspot on my phone.
Did a master reset of SYNC
Plugged in the USB and waited.
Ignored the key cycle message.
Waited more, until I got the "You may remove the USB" message.
Did a real APIM restart by removing the key and opening the door, then restarted the truck.
Took about 20 minutes total and I didn't run into any problems. There's a few new things in the UI and Gracenote now shows real album covers. Thanks to all who provided links to the software, instructions on how to do the install, and who shared their experiences with their own upgrades.
This is incredible!
This guy actually read the forum and understood what he was getting into before blindly plugging in a non-official “mish-mash” package someone compiled outside of Ford. I’m impressed. I wish there were more people like this around.
The leaked 3.0 build floating around is the official release using the Sync 3 files from the 2018 Ford Explorer... but yes, Ford has not made it public... yet.
I refuse to call it a leak, because, well, it’s not a leak.
I think that by calling it a â€leak’ here (which it isn’t), we are waving our hands and inviting Ford to come over here and sue the owners of this website for allowing us to distribute amongst ourselves of their intellectual property.
By stating the truth; which is that the F150 Sync 3 3.0 “update” is simply a file where someone came up with a their own auto-install script, by way of creating a “mish-mash” (lol), of the 2018 explorer Sync 3 3.0 and other Ford packages, which was made available by Ford to both registered third parties and the public, well, it deflects a lot of potential blame away from us, away from this website’s owners, and away from particular Mc85’s.
.... Hi Ford, how are you today? still following us and not posting eh? You should say hello once in a while.
Dieselxdan if youd or anyone else would like the NON NAV sync 3 v3.0 update files send me a pm with your email and I'll gladly send them over to you no problem
I’m curious if this is the original file or if someone recompiled it after other people had those issues earlier in the week with the non-nav update?
Has anyone running v3.0 figured out how to disable the wireless notification popup from occurring when starting up? I don't get it everytime but seems to be popping up more frequently. I have wireless disabled in settings and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Thanks for any info.

Does your Gracenote have a version number showing?
I kept getting that wireless message until I tried one more time upgrading last night. The 3.0 was working fine, just no version on Gracenotes. So I tried to reinstall 3.0 again. Nothing changed.
So then I tried to go back to version 2.2 which didn't happen, still 3.0, but when it finished installing this time and I pulled the USB out and let the truck sit for an hour. When I came out to go somewhere, I looked at the version again, still 3.0 and no version on Gracenotes. As I pulled out of the garage the Gracenotes updated and gave me a version number. So far no more messages looking for a network. I did have the wifi connected while the update happened and I do have the new USB connector for Sync 3.

Click on View networks then try to connect to your home wifi. It won't pop up again...
Thanks for all the quick responses on the wireless popup. I do have gracenote. I'll give some of the suggestions a try and see of that takes care of it.
