Yesterday I had the dealer update my 2016 F150 XLT 302A wo/navigation from Sync 3 Build 16280 to 17011. Everything appears to work correctly - voice recognition works just fine. Haven't tried Android Auto and I don't use Apple CarPlay. Update appears to be successful: Sync 3 screen shows the new Buld installed and both the Ford Owner and Oasis show the new Build have been successfully installed.

Why is the Gracenote version missing? The Gracenote version was there prior to the Build update. Is there anything else I should check to make sure still works?

Again I'm sure this question has already been answered and if so, please point me to the post.

Just wanted to follow up with the resolution to this issue that was brought up back on post # 3350.

Dealer has been in contact with the Ford Hotline ever since this issue occurred. Over the past 3 days the Hotline had them reflash the APIM multiple times without success. Finally they approved replacing the APIM. APIM was replaced and now all is good. See attached notes from invoice.

Note: since I originally paid the dealer to perform the Sync update and the vehicle is still within the 36 month / 36,000 mile warranty, this was performed under warranty

All I had was a 8 GB stick laying around and it managed to work fine. Was not expecting it too but I tried anyways. I am at version 2.2 now and just waiting for the USB module to arrive tomorrow.

I was actually pretty nervous seeing all the issues people have been having but everything went smooth. Took about 20 min.

Update on my Sync 3 2.2 issue:

Dropped truck off this morning. Dealer verified the APIM is toast, module is ordered and should arrive Monday or Tuesday.

I asked if the 2.2 update has any correlation to the APIM kicking the bucket, SA suggested it might have something to do with a software/hardware incapability, especially since the issues popped up with the update and progressively got worse.

Will update again once the APIM is replaced.

So I took my truck in today for an oil change and swap the USB hub out. Dealer spent almost an hour removing my USB port. Claimed they had to remove all kind of crap to get it out. Fortunately they only charged 20 bucks, but they were not happy one bit. Parts guy I talked to the day before called it a 5 min job

so CarPlay... I think it's been neat so far. I like that the regular sync runs while in the CarPlay environment. I was worried about when you leave sync, losing whatever you were listening too.

This happened to me on my Explorer. When I upgraded from MFT to SYNC 3, removing the USB hub was harder than removing and installing the APIM due to the USB cables. They were zip-tied to the steel frame and there was no slack in the cables. It was a pain to install it.

Your parts guy is correct. Someone is lying to you at that shop - OR - their technician is pitiful.

TexasFording, can you detail your trouble? I too have the non-nav running 2.0 and my three upgrades have all failed. I have the 32GB USB stick formatted to exFAT. The upgrade begins, runs for about 20 mins, then I've received twice the upgrade completed and to restart the Truck. Other time, nothin after 45 min. Even after all this, everything is still at the 2.0 version, and works, with the exception of the Gracenote. No version number and it longer display the Artist graphics when music is played. What steps did you take?

Thanks a bunch

The dealer was authorized to replace my APIM as well, under 36k/ warranty.

The update is meant for ver 1.x Apims only. If yours was originally 2.0 and you take it in and have it replaced under warranty for a botched self-update I wouldn't be surprised if once ford looks into it you get billed for an APIM. The 2.2 upgrade for 2.0 units is a dealer only install.
