Some customers with 2016 Ford/Lincoln vehicles with SYNC 3 and Navigation may request an upgrade for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. In General settings and about check if v2.0 is present. If V2.0 is present no software update is needed. Apple CarPlay requires a new Media/USB hub to be installed. Refer to GSB for Apple CarPlay Android Auto upgrade. Follow WSM, Section 415-00 to update APIM if needed. After Installation Complete pop-up, follow PTS instructions and perform a complete ignition cycle by turning the key off for 5 minutes which is critical for a successful installation. The software and hardware upgrade is customer paid as it is not a warrantable repair per the Warranty And Policy Manual, Section 3, Warranty Coverages – SYNC.

Pop-up will ask about Automatic Software Downloads, select Ask Me Later. Some 2016-2017 Ford/Lincoln vehicles with SYNC 3 may exhibit inaccurate GPS tracking, vehicle icon spinning, compass spinning or Sirius Travel Link fuel prices not displaying. Check for SYNC software update under the OASIS Tab SYNC selection. If update is available refer to WSM, Section 415-00 and update APIM software. During the update process the SYNC status bar shows Updating System Software for approximately 30 minutes. After Installation Complete pop-up appears, remove USB flash drive and install into IDS tool to update Ford database. Perform a complete ignition cycle by turning the key off for 5 minutes which is critical for a successful installation. If no updates available refer to WSM for diagnosis. For claiming, use causal part 14G371 and applicable labor operations in section 10 of the SLTS manual.

 

Mine took 21 minutes. After restart 2.2 version showed all came on except map took a while. I shut down because read somewhere internal updating will continue up to 30 minutes if vehicle turned off, Next start map and all were there and fine.

None of my Ford dealers anywhere near me had one. I wound up buying on ebay from Fairway Ford which has both white and blue, free shipping, priority mail. Was shipped next day and due here tomorrow according to postal tracking. Vender has 99% rating if arrives tomorrow as advised I will be very happy with them.

I should note mine is for Ford Edge 2016 and is 2 port in case these differ on other vehicles.

Interesting.. seems the installation instructions I received on the Ford Owners site left a couple things out. I wonder if I can clear my Sync out and reattempt? Also one question if anyone knows. The files in the syncmyride file are in a different order than the auto install file has them. I'm assuming it doesn't matter, but anyone want to weigh in on that?

 

I remember reading somewhere that the order did indeed matter. In my case using a Mac first attempts simply broke out all the files, wouldn't work. For Mac I had to download and use STUFFIT from app store for zip file to unpack it in correct order and to include syncmyride folder.

As I said once I had in proper order and in a folder update went smoothly after previous tries all failed. I believe having two files then folder, then having 5 files in order in that folder is mandatory for an auto operation upgrade.

Here's step 1 thru step 3. Step 4 is just bringing back to computer to tell ford you downloaded it.

 

Talk about a letdown... Although I had no problems updating from 1.0 to 2.2 from the ford owner site using a usb flash drive last week, yesterday my new usb port arrived & I soon discovered my iphone 4 is not supported, got to have a 5 or newer for CarPlay. At least my wife has a 5 so I know it works

I tried again after re formatting the 32G thumb drive in exfat and following the instuctio9ns to the T .. did not turn the key back on for 13 minutes. and still the same thing.. voice recognition not ready.. no AA and the unit has lost it's voice. So I guess I'm don't until Ford calls me back. I tried calling them again with my case # and they said they were researching the problem and would get back to me this week... goody.. they will just likely tell me to go to the dealer.. which will be another week waiting to get in .. pffft.. not happy.

 

Lol!! hard to feel sorry for you man. Iphone 4?! That's basically one step above a flip phone these days. Time for an upgrade. Lol! Sorry to get off subject, but.....
