Well, Im sure I just f'd myself. at the 40 min mark, I gave up and shut her down and went back into work.
The only thing I see f'd is the Gracenote version is empty where before it said like v 1.1 or something.
well see what happens after work

In regards to my own problem -- going to try a different USB stick today and see if that helps.
Having easily updated the software in my two Hondas several times over the past 6 years I must say that Ford is really behind the times on this stuff. The Wifi update stuff should be simple and pain free but obviously is not. This messing around with owner-created USB updates is ridiculous!
My guess from talking with some guys who worked with GM a few years back to overcome the same sorts of problems is that Ford still thinks "we're just a hardware company" and doesn't invest enough in their software infrastructure.

Took truck in for oil change, mentioned to tech that sync system had dropped Pandora a couple times he said they would do current system update. Dealer/service claims my sync3 module is bad that's why it will not download updates. They want to replace sync3 module but they cant tell me if it has v1.0 or v2.0 installed on it or if new module will allow for v2.0 update. Is there any way to determine if new module will be v2.0 or v2.0 compatible?
Update on my installation problems:
- Tried a different USB stick. This time it did "something," and I got the out of memory error.
- Contacted Ford. They asked if I used a 32GB drive or larger and if I formatted in exfat. I told them I'd used a smaller drive, and that others had successfully upgraded without a 32GB drive. They insisted.
- I knew they were just going off of their support script, but I used a 64GB drive formatted in exfat. Less than 5 minutes later, I got the same out of memory issue.
