Crazy DTE ????
I have a 2017 F150 with the 23 gallon tank and had it about 2 months. First couple tanks of gas said 438 miles to empty. last week I filled up and DTE said 383 miles to empty. Now I just filled up and DTE said 415 miles to empty? So what gives, why so much fluctuations. Am an old school gas gauge guy any ways but, still brand new truck and am a stickler for stuff being right and correct.

It averages the last few hundred miles. Depending on quality of gas etc it will change

I believe this varies based on how you drive, and where you drive.
I have been driving mostly highway for the past couple of weeks, and my last fill up my DTE was over 1100Km or about 685 miles.
Before when I first purchased the truck, I would only have a DTE of about 880km or 546 miles.
I do reset my trip computer and fuel economy gauge at every fill up. So that might be the difference.
I would try that and see if it makes a difference.

It uses the last several hundred miles to predict what your gas mileage will be moving forward. If you've been doing a lot of highway driving, your average tends to go up, and so does the DTE.
Nothing new - my older explorer will give me a DTE of 260 miles in the dead of winter and over 400 when I'm driving cross country...

In all seriousness, my 2015 with 2.7 reads 500 mile DTE or so for each fill up with the 23 gallon tank. I have a lifetime average 22.3 MPG which computes to 513 miles of actual DTE if I got 22.3 MPG for that tank.
