Coyote Engine?
I was at the dealer today, having them check my oil for the consumption test and I saw on the paperwork that it listed my engine as the 5.0 COYOTE. Now, my XLT is pretty much the "Peasant Package" as far as XLTs go. It doesn't list the Coyote engine on the sticker.
So, I've got some questions...
Please confirm something for me...the Coyote is an upgraded, performance engine that is installed in Mustangs and the special package trucks, right?
How would I know if it is a Coyote, as opposed to a stock 5.0? The truck has no badging to indicate a Coyote engine...and has the 3:31 rear (bone-stock, I believe).
The main reason I'm asking is that it's probably going to be replaced on the TSB and if, by some fluke I have a better engine, I want to make sure I get the same...
Thanks.

Every 5.0L is the Coyote engine.
"Coyote" was just the name Ford gave it when they were developing it and it stuck. It was named this due to the high red line, which causes the engine to "howl" like a Coyote.
There are no different versions of the 5.0L in any of the trucks, from the base XL all the way up the chain to the Limited.
If you have a 5.0L V8, you have a Coyote.

Close... inspiration for the motor came from the Indy 5.0 coyote. Nothing to do with AJ or how it sounds, which I would not describe as anything like a coyote's yip.
The 5.0 has been steadily improved since it's release in (2011?), but, yeah, the OP has a coyote. It is preceded by the 4.6L and 5.4L, nothing but coyote's since.

Ford brought back the "5.0" nomenclature just for nostalgia's sake.
Back in the day the 302 Windsor was just called the 302
In the fox body mustang days it turned into the 5.0
Then when they went modular 4.6 the 5.0 was obviously dropped.
Now that the Coyote is basically the same displacement as the 302 they brought back the 5.0 name, but it's also the Coyote.
