I don’t even look, I just move the shifter where it needs to be and go. Wouldn't a lighted center console indicator be duplicitous? There is a gear indicator in the dash (which seems to be the direction they are going...less wiring and no additional parts needed for the console). I never look down at the shifter to see what gear I’m in, though I guess some of you do.

In another similar post weeks ago, I thought it was also about an indicator. As in, the letters turn red, but that's not the case here. It's just about the letters lighting up when the dash buttons are lit up. Seems Ford removed this for some reason with the 2018's. After a couple weeks it's easy to just go by feel. This is my first automatic, so decades of driving for me was always by feel with a stick shift and just muscle memory.

Some guys on the Raptor forum bought the missing part and got the gear indicator to illuminate. The solution is on page 5 of this thread. > http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f263/...-lights-60921/

Not sure why you would want it to illuminate, when it does not show the selection. I see no point in that. If it would show the mode like the meter, then sure, light it up.

By my dumb logic, it's better to draw your eyes to the illuminated meter selector that actually shows the mode.

Gotta agree with Ford on this one....

So mine built in June of 2018 doesnt either...but what about the cupholders? I swore mine used to light up...did they cut that corner as well? You people without the shifter letters lighting up...do you have the cupholder lights?

Buid date 10/10 2017. Doesn't light up.

Good info. I found it odd it didn’t light up...

how “easy” is it to mod it so that it does?
i realize it may not indicate the gear with a different color or brighter.

Personally, I'm glad that my new one won't get more unnecessary lights. I can't stand the interior being all lit up at night, since I do a lot of night driving. One of the first things I do when I get a new vehicle is turn down all the interior lights as low as they'll go. Too much light in the cab impairs night vision. I wish there was an option to switch all the lights to red and or turn them off completely.
