Hello members. As I sit in the Taco Bell drive thru (thanks carona) I noticed the temp of the engine coolant reaching 217 degrees before cooling back down. Anybody ever notice that? Well onto last Saturday when I installed a Raptor style grille on my 2015 Lariat. Before installing the new grille I washed out the radiators with water. I figured after 88,000 miles in the cold north where they use road salt and such I thought that could have been the issue. Tonight at the drive thru I noticed the temp not going above 199 degrees. I believe it helped a bunch. Anybody ever have this issue? Or maybe I'm going crazy in my old age. Is 199 still to hot for a 2.7? The electric fan works like a champ. Happy days....
Angelo AC condensor AC condenser packed with debris
I had an old Nissan maxima with 125k miles and it started to have overheating problems. Took it to a shop and they wanted to put in new radiator, thermostat, condenser etc. to the tune of $500. My dad told me to try washing out the radiator. That did the trick and it never overheated again. I’m sure the same applies here
The thermostat doesn't even fully open until 219F. Your radiator definitely needs a good clean-out, but you're a *long* way from temperatures hazardous to your engine.
2018 3.5 EB They run warm, I would use the hot word but then someone might start to unnecessary worry. The other day, outside temp maybe 60 degrees, it was showing 214 degrees. I have not taken the time to looked at my expansion tank's cap pressure rating. That pressure rating can be converted to the boiling temperature when the system will start to lose water.
Sounds like the 2.7 can take a bit of heat. I didnt worry about it until i did the forscan change to show the number above the temp gauge. Maybe im making to much of this but id hate to have the engine overheat and melt into a slump of molten graphite while waiting for tacos.

Why though? You're still going to get tacos and that is always the goal!
I figured you have an app on your phone to read temps...but yes you admitted the real problem. You displayed the temp and got curious/concerned. I wish I could tell an accurate number of threads that have been started for 'overtemp' concerns right AFTER enabling the digital display. haha. You've graduated to the group of concerned folks that can 'see' the engine temp.
Rest assured, you are the same as the rest of us.
A number of 'overheating' threads are started as a result of seeing 220 degrees....we know where you're coming from here!
The engine temperature gauge with digital readout isn't even actual engine coolant temperature. The gauge displays an "inferred" coolant temperature, calculated by the PCM, and based on the voltage signal returned from the CHT (Cylinder Head Temperature) sensor.
It is also an inexpensive sensor that Ford recommends to replace any time it is removed. What does that tell you about the accuracy and durability of this sensor.
