Default Cigar lighter?

Since they don't provide one anymore... anyone use a cigar lighter in one of the 12V outlets? The manual says they're fused for 20 amps, same as the old lighter sockets. I'm just wondering if the heat of a lighter would damage a socket that wasn't intended to be a lighter.

Personally I would highly doubt it !! It's the same fuse rating so the wiring is the same....
I read on these forums someplace (re your question) they just made it into an extra power point !!
Having said that for years fords lighters have been held in with a black plastic retainer lock ring.... so that is not an issue with heat!!
& I would venture to say the power supply connector might is the same fixture...& can be changed easily??
You would have to check that ....either way I don't see a problem exchanging to it...
As in any applicacation don't have anything lets say laying across the very end that gets warm

When you buy the smokers package, I believe all they add is the lighter and an ash ‘cup’ that goes in a cup holder. I just assumed that you were supposed to use the 12v outlet provided from the factory.

Most new socketss are no longer used for lighters...the center + is now just a dot...no clip for a lighter burner coil...

I actually have the cupholder ashtray, and the lighter is easy to find. My 2011 actually came with the lighter... 2019 did not, the socket in the dash is moved and now it's labeled as a "power point" with a plastic cover. Not that it's any big deal having a lighter or not, but I always have had one and liked the functionality. Every now and then I even used it to light a cigar.

If the clip isn't in there to hold the lighter part you'd be stuck holding it in to heat up for some amount of time and risking melting an internal part. Also probably thinner metal and not heat tolerant like a true "lighter" port.

If you check the wires connecting the power point sockets, they look like telephone wire. My uneducated opinion is that anyone putting a dead short across these wires (which is what a heating element is) there is a serious chance of burning up the wiring, or at least blowing a fuse. Only solution is to custom wire a real lighter socket with its own mount and wire and fuse it appropriately. To each his own! Or quit smoking! Yikes...….
