Been driving me crazy since I bought the truck. If its bright outside its very difficult to see the buttons on the central console (temp/fan/seats etc) since they are not illuminated - I look down and all I see is a black panel with black buttons and cant make any of them out. Changing the cluster brightness does not seem to help. They are illuminated at night though. Not sure what the logic is for when they become illuminated but this is the first vehicle I have ever driven where this as been an issue. Any thoughts?

I have never noticed this to be an issue in and F150 I have driven, either my own or rented. You could turn your lights on or ... have your eyes checked??
Speaking for myself, the older I get the more light I need to see and a black back ground only intensifes the problem. Younger people are only on they way to noticing it, no offense meant. Lots of new things to look for on the displays and more of a familiarity process to master as I have done on all my other vehicles. If more light would help I have seen map lights on a flexible arm that plug into the lighter outlet. There is probably a 120V AC outlet there too. The computer stores have lights that plug into USB ports that are even closer. May want to test if and when everything powers down.
If you are referring to the orange LED's, they are supposed to light up a lot more during the day than night. I've got the opposite issue, they are not bright enough to see well at night, but are plenty bright during daytime. All of the trucks I checked out before buying my 2015 did the same, so I believe you may have an issue with your panel.

Young people with good eyesight design dashboard controls, and electronics. I don't have any problems seeing the buttons, and the lights are plenty bright, but I do have some issues reading the small labels on them these days. Solution - during the day I wear sunglasses with progressive lenses. At night, I wear clear computer glasses.
Tried to take a picture of it but the while balance on my phone is much better than my eyes lol
Difficult to see the buttons on the bottom at a glance. Are they supposed to be illuminated? Tried with both my lights on and off.
Ah, the button labeling... I don't think there is any useful light coming through those during the daytime, if any at all. I don't have any issues reading them when I have my glasses on, so I set my glasses on the door under that panel in case I need to put them on for a second to see a button label. I rarely need to do so as I've got the function of most of the buttons in memory now.
Don't think I've ever owned a vehicle that put out light during the day except for the instrument display and indicators like the orange and red LED's.
Not a good option.. doing that also dims your screens and dash gauges, turns on exterior lamps (when set to auto), and causes the interior temp to swing more.
