Default CEL, Code P0020, this is really weird

so, this morning I went out to my truck in the driveway. CEL was on. Had to drive into town and tablet was dead so I couldn’t pull the codes until I got it charged. Drove maybe 50 miles today, truck seemed to drive fine. Code was P0020, plus a couple of others. Popped the hood and I see this:
wires to the intake and exhaust camshaft position sensors severed right above the plugs. Almost like they were both cut. Or maybe not almost.
Anyone have any theories that could account for this? Random act of vandalism? Anyone replaced those wires?

What the hell? And that's the VCT solenoids not position sensors. That looks like it was intentionally done. You need to leave that man's wife alone, LOL.

Looks super intentional, doesn’t it? Freaking me out just a little. Thanks for the clarification. Either way, why would someone cut those four wires? I’ll take a closer look in the morning but I didn’t see anything else amiss. And didn’t notice anything missing from inside the truck either.

Cut, or chewed? You could have a rodent problem.

How'd so-and-so get the hood open if the wires had been clipped?

I'm assuming this is a few-years-old 5.0?

Its a 2015 5.0, yes. I thought about chewed. But all four wires on VCT plugs, all right up against the plug and evenly severed? Seems a little precise for a rodent. That said, I’m currently rewiring a trailer I have. I’m pretty sure it was my dogs who “unwired” that, probably in search of rodents...
I’ll take a clearer photo this morning.
Mum the meantime, anyone has any experience replacing those plugs? Is the other end somewhere accessible or should I think about repinning the plugs? They’re cut off too close to splice them.

Spooky! I'd setup a sniper position the next few nights....rodent or person.

It’s tempting. Here’s a daylight shot. Trying to figure out how to dismantle the plugs as I really hate to pay the dealer to replace the harness. Grr.

Definitely cut! Super weird. It looks like the the female end of the connector should just on snap and then get a new connector end?

Here are the female bits. Very short for a splice or a solder.

Dang, man, sorry to see this. Does look like a snip. Anyhoo... you can fix that.

Can't you remove the weatherpak gasket and metal clip from each wire stub, then install these parts onto the existing harness? Don't forget to slip the plastic housing on there too... I've done that. Good luck!
