Default CarPlay & Google Maps

Google Maps has been updated, works with CarPlay now. Played around bit with it, it's fast. Can't drag the map with your finger. But you get satellite and voice searching, plus traffic. Nice addition.

Just got he update as well and will try it on way home. Hopefully Waze is not too far behind considering they are owned by Google.

Although I have factory GPS, I typically trust Google maps more when traffic is thick and a reroute may be in order. Quite often I will run them both at the same time. Was never that impressed with Apple or Waze maps. This addition of G maps to Carplay has got me off my duff and I ordered the Carplay module today (I have a pre-Carplay 2016).

Apple maps has traffic and you can drag the map with your finger. I've gone back to it from Waze and like it so much better now. I feel it is more reliable (for me at least.)

You may be the first person I've heard that likes Apple Maps nav over Waze.

It sure did. My first order of business was testing Google Maps offline in CarPlay. I made a quick video on it. It's great option for travellers, people who worry about data overages or roaming charges, and those who use an iPhone with no SIM card.

Never trusted Apple maps. Too many bad experiences. Even Apple suggested using google maps when their app first came out. I will be using Apple CarPlay much more now that google maps is available.
