have you tried cranking the engine over and building oil pressure before you let it start to see if that eliminates the sound to verify it’s the cam phasers you are hearing?

How would that be done with push button start?

before you push the button to start it hold the gas pedal to the floor and keep it to the floor until the oil pressure gauge jumps up and as soon as the gauge jumps up let up on the gas pedal and the truck will start up. The truck will only crank without starting for about 5 seconds and then it will stop cranking automatically. So if it quits cranking before the oil pressure jumps up then just push your start button a 2nd time and start cranking the motor more until the oil pressure gauge jumps up.
Please note:The colder it is outside the thicker the oil is and it will take longer for the motor to build oil pressure. Also, the longer the vehicle sits the longer it will take to build oil pressure, everything leaks down the longer it sits.

It's coming from the front of the motor. Not sure what else it would be. I'll try your method at some day this weeke and see what happens.

if it’s a very loud diesel like rattle that lasts a few seconds it’s probably the phasers but if it’s quieter that you have to really listen for that you have to be near the front wheelwells to hear it then it might just be normal timing chain noise until the tensioners get oil pressure and take the slack out of the timing chains. I think most overhead cam engines with oil pressure fed chain tensioners normally have some slight noise on startup after they sit overnight and everything drains down and some people listen really closely for cam phaser rattle since they know these engines are known for it and they mistake the normal chain sound for cam phaser rattle. Not saying yours isn’t cam phaser rattle cause i never heard yours though.
Years ago when i bought my 07 gt 500 there were issues with the clutches not disengaging so it was difficult to shift them and everyone on the shelby forums read about the issue and once they knew about the issue all of a sudden just about everyone on the forums thought their car had the issue even if they didn’t have the problem so they were all going to the dealership to get their clutches replaced under a tsb even though most of them probably didn’t have a problem at all. Mine still has no issues to this day. Again-Not saying your not having a cam phaser noise but just saying I wouldn’t run to the dealership to tear my engine apart unless i was sure it needed to be done. Sometimes they fix the initial problem but create 3 more new problems when they tear into the engine.

It didn't show up on my truck report as an active recall so they thought it was an old one but called service. The service manager came out when I had referenced this recall code and said he was shocked I knew about it. They got word of it yesterday but it must have just hit FordPass.

He said that it is a programming update and the update hasn't even been released yet. Basically from what he has read about it, they won't do the update unless you have the cold start rattle. If it doesn't fix the rattle, then the second part of the recall is to replace the cam phasers under an automatic extended coverage for this issue. I didn't ask how long they are covering this issue but I have seen stuff like 10/100k. I guess we will see.

I don't have the cold start rattle so we just left it at that. Doesn't sound like they could do it yet even if it did.
I called my dealer Friday and scheduled this for this morning. Was never asked if my truck had this problem, which it hasn’t. My guess is dealers won’t care as long as the customer asks for it to get done.

Default New powertrain cham phaser recall:

im fairly certain this just popped yesterday. I am in & out of my Ford app all the time for multiple vehicles for my guys...I noticed it yesterday. I haven’t researched it much here at all.

Id be surprised if many dealers were cognizant of it yet, plus have the parts (depending on what it will require, if anything different!)

Hope that helps!

Do you think this means it was fixed or just traded in with the problem? I realize the best way to know is to ask, but I just wanted y'all's opinion.
Thanks!!
