So it cracks the paint on your new truck and that's okay??

I had the same issue. Every time I took it to the brushless car wash and had to go through the blower in the end it would put so much pressure it almost took off the corner. The 3m clear tape is no good anymore. Had to find another solution to prevent it from damag in the paint. I had extra invisible shield I use for my screen protector on my phone, cut it to size and put the clip back on. Has not come off or loose since

I tried a piece of removable adhesive white vinyl yesterday. It is thinner than the clear vinyl supplied and the clip slipped right on without having to mallet it in place.

But of course it still slid back out. I think it is an adhesive issue. It just does not adhere properly for this one clip, an issue with the shape of the hood. I am going to try some clear polyester with permanent adhesive.

Well... remember a year from now when you had a chance to take it back and get a refund. You'll wish you had because this thing is never going to last regardless of what you do, even though you shouldn't have to do anything to make it work correctly. I can't imagine how bad winter is going to jack it up.....

You're dealing with a poorly designed, over priced POS.

Geez Dad let me go through the college of hard knocks first will ya?

I promise I won't wait to long. I am almost done experimenting.

I placed three layers of 2 mil clear polyester with permanent adhesive and it is no longer slipping off on its own. But the material doesn't have as much tack on its surface as the clear vinyl that is provided does, so with a little bit of force I can pull the clip back. The only problem now is trying to find clear vinyl with permanent adhesive. Basically clear vinyl is pretty much static cling, but static cling does not have an adhesive. I believe what Ford supplied with this product is a static cling with removable adhesive and I believe that is where the problem lies. Because when the clip was walking itself off it was dragging the static cling with it. Had the static cling had a permanent adhesive I believe that it would prevent the slippage on these problem areas where the clip just doesn't fit the form of the hood properly.

Still waiting for Ford to warranty up on the replacement. Haven't heard from the dealership since I first talked to them about the issue.

You are giving sage advice and I will follow it soon if things don't work out, I promise.

The stampede has clips on the ends like the OEM one you have. I had the stampede and sent it back because it did not fit right, plus it extended past the hood lines to cover the fenders and that is not the look I wanted. To me it was identical looking to the weathertech deflector. I now have the ERG and it looks almost like the OEM and the fit is great, other than the passenger side clip that I had to really push to get on, but the stampede clip was the same. There is a ridge on the under side of the hood that extends farther on the passenger side than on the drivers side.

Well I am now thoroughly stumped. As I mentioned in my previous post, I applied permanent adhesive clear polyester and I'll be damned if it didn't slide off eventually as well, within three hours. Is there something about this paint? Is it teflon in certain places or what?

It should have stuck and stuck very well.

I am just going to go out and get me some roadkill and lash it to the front end. That will take care of it. The smell over time might be a little too much to take, but it sure will protect against rock chips. It will be a bug catcher instead of a bug collector though.

Dealer came through on the warranty. But I had to give the one I had one more shot.

I used the clear polyester again, only this time I used 3 layers of 1 1/2" wide material instead of the 3/4" wide I cut before.

It worked. To test it I drove it through the tunnel car wash where the tornado winds of the dryer didn't even budge the end clips. Of course the center portion wanted to fly away with all the wind coming from the back side, but it held as well. I just figured that it needed more surface in contact with the adhesive of the clear material. I guess you call that shear.

So I am all good.

EDIT:

So I am not good.

After sitting outside this afternoon. It is sliding off AGAIN.

And I think I know why. It is the clear coat that I had done after buying the vehicle. Nothing sticks to it under pressure. So since the driver side clip doesn't fit properly it slowly pulls the clear polyester off. The passenger side fits properly so has no issue.

It is going back after I uninstall it.

All,

I was able to fix mine by trimming the seam sealer on the passenger side hood lip. After several attempts at replacing the vinyl protectors and reforming the clips with no results. After trimming the seam sealer level I have had no further issues.

I am not familiar with the terminology, not being a body person. At any rate I uninstalled it last night anyway.

I just need to replace the destroyed clips that were removed to install it in the first place.
