If it really makes you feel better, you could change it early or whenever you want. The subject of changing oil on this forum brings out the ninjas outta people. Some say after 1K. Some say every 5K. Some say 10K. Some say "wait for the Oil Life Monitor." If it puts you at ease, change early. It's your truck, time, and money. Do as you please.

When I got my truck, I changed after the first 1K. Only 5qts came out (after waiting an hour) and the filter had very, very, very small amounts of particles. After that, everytime I changed oil, no more particles. I just purchased a new Explorer for the wife (3.5EB) less than a month ago and already put 1,600 miles on there. Still haven't change oil yet. Maybe at 2K. Why? Because I want to. I do what I want.

Btw, congrats on your new rig

Tks,

I was just trying to get a feeling on what users think about this and trying to fish customers mind/experience ...
Last time I bought a brand new Ford vehicle was more than 15 years ago and by then the manual stated that if I didn't change the oil at 1k miles (at the dealer) the warranty would be voided....
Evidently a lot changed....

you're good until the oil life monitor tells you to change it. if you feel like changing earlier, that's your call.

Yes, a lot has changed. I'd recommend that BEFORE your trip you read the entire manual cover to cover. You'll find out about Tow/Haul mode, sway control, knowing how the truck senses the trailer and tracks the mileage differently, etc.

Great thread on the IOLM by a really great guy who I respect a lot is here : https://www.f150forum.com/f38/when-s...mation-372752/

No vehicle warranty is voided by not doing maintenance, nor does it have to be done at the dealer. The manufacturer has to prove that your lack of maintenance caused the failure. My 1999 Explorer (would be 18 years now) recommended an oil change at 5,000 miles (normal schedule) and 3,000 miles (special operating conditions including towing). A dealer may have suggested doing it sooner, which now Ford has publicly called them out on and requested they not recommend anything that is not in the schedule.

Enjoy your new truck!

No early oil changed needed, I changed my 2.7 EB at 10K miles when the oil life monitor told me to. I would however try and put as many miles as possible on the truck prior to hooking up the trailer and towing.

Oil change is not required. However if it were mine I would change the oil. It's an old school habit I inherited from my father. Every new vehicle I get I change the oil at 1000 miles. With today's oil technology I know it's completely unnecessary but I still do it.

My grandfather walked 10 miles to a school in 10 foot drifts. I took a schoolbus even though I knew I could walk 10 miles, but I was smarter.

We buy 5-10 new fleet F150's and F250's every year....have for decades. They're hooked to trailers before they ever leave the shop. If something is gonna break it's gonna break whether there's a trailer hooked up or not. We've never had an issue...ever.
