Default Break in

Hello,
We are about to get our truck next week and we have a camping trip scheduled for early October, what leave us 2 weeks to ride the 1000 miles that the owners manual says needs to happen before you tow something.
The manual doesn't give too much details about anything else for the break in period like changing oil, etc.
Since we will be towing for 1400 miles, do I need to change engine oil before that trip?
What do you think?

Truck has the V8 engine.

Tks,

How big is the trailer? The break in period just lets everything get settled in. No need for an oil change.

Break-in period is 1k miles.

Ford says:
1- Not to tow anything until that mileage is reach.
2- Not to keep constant speed (gears should shift often).

I understand that but I'm concerned with all the small - powder like - metal particulate that a new engine generates a lot of during the break in.
If we don't change the oil, when we come back the truck will have probably more than 3K miles on that oil.....

Your truck is equipped with an intelligent oil life monitor. It will let you know once it will need one. I wouln't worry with that. Lot of people here will tell you to do an oil change anyways, but you would be wasting your money IMO.

They are set to 12mths/10k miles I believe, but as I said, the intelligent oil life monitor can trigger it early, if needed.

I'd try to do as much driving as possible in the two weeks before you pull the trailer.

The question is about changing the oil before the trip or not....

Also I wouldn't like to have to change the oil during the trip so I'm trying to get a sense if I need to change it before that or don't worry about it.....

Post 2 & 6 both said not to worry about an oil change, I'm not sure what else you are looking for?

Owners manuals are available online if you want to review them before you pick up your truck.

Just take it and enjoy it and don't worry about it.

Change the oil at some point when you get back.

That truck has an oil filter. They will be NO particles floating around in the engine. Count on it.
