Default brake controller problem

Anyone else have a problem with the factory brake controller? In the middle of a trip it took a dump and Ford said its on a national back order and no idea when it will come in. So is there a problem with these since the truck only has 9,000 miles on it.

The fact that it's on national back-order should tell you something.

Had a Ford dealer in N.Y. check it, Not putting out enough voltage to apply brakes when you step on the pedal, but turning the gain all the way up got me some braking doing it by hand to get me through the trip and home again. Everything else works fine, just no out put from the controller when you step on the brake pedal.
So a $40,000 truck with 8,000 miles on it and no brake controller!

Interesting. I had to turn my essentially all the way up to get my 4200lb TT to stop reliably. On my '15 I had an aftermarket TBC that did a much better job than the factory one.

Mine is the same. All the way up. I couldn't follow the set up procedure as it would never skid on gravel from 30 MPH, it would barely slow the trailer. I'd be interested in what FORD says and if the power can be increased.

If you Google it you will see that these controllers have bin failing for a few years, I have to take the truck in next week for something else so I am going to see if they will admit there is a problem with them. As I said it does work a little by hand but not at all when you step on the brake pedal.

Are there any recommended alternatives? My 2.7 XLT came with the towing package but no controller, and had considered getting the factory one for the clean install, but with the issues stacking up like this, I'd rather something more reliable.

check out the "towing" subforum.

I think I remember reading about someone who put an aftermarket controller into the same ITBC spot... I can't recall which controller, but it looked pretty good. The main drawback was it doesn't show info on the dash screen.
