It doesn't have audio and literally I don't you would want it. Constant distraction with vehicles on either side of you. It is meant to be seen when looking left of right into your mirrors when you are intending to make a lane change. One improvement I could see would either be a larger light or a flashing light to make it more noticeable.

Interesting I have a 2014 Mazda 6. I believe the only time it chimes is when I have my blinker on and there is a car in my blindspot. The blinker has to be on I believe.

I can only imagine how irritating a BLIS audio alarm would be sitting in a double left hand turn lane with your turn signal on and a car is next to you in the other left turn lane. Glad mine is just a light and no beeping.

...it would only sound off when you put your signal on and there was someone in your blind spot.

Mike flashes when I signal and there is a car there.

If sounds like you should use your signal more.

Your truck has to be moving for BLIS to work.

My Lariat is a disappointment in the backup warning system. It does not detect a pedestrian, tree or garage door unless I am very close, often under two feet. Even then it is hit or miss. Pedestrians must be within a couple of feet to ever register and the RR won't register any stationery object unless I'm within 18". Moving vehicles behind me in a parking lot are promptly noticed but solid stationery objects not so much. the blind spot indicators on the exterior mirrors also leave much to be desired. Putting the indicator lights inside the cab where movement in the mirrors and exteriors lights would not be distractions would have been easy to accomplish and much more useful/effective.

I'm in for all driver assistance features... as long as they're fully flexible, and by that I mean being able to turn them on/off, turn sound on/off, and change settings when needed, like sensitivity, etc. And yes, BLIS should have the option to turn sound on too. The only such aid I always have on is BLIS (without sound on other cars), but as mentioned, FORD should have made it more conspicuous (like Audis), or at least more visible on the mirrors (like MBs). When not on your best, like when groggy or tired, especially on the highway, I turn lane departure on, and sometimes adaptive cruise as well. If equipped, I'd also add BLIS sound when in heavy traffic and such. I'm almost always very aware of my surroundings, always doing head checks, etc., and always driving defensively, but just like the one time I didn't check myself got cancer and almost didn't make it (still battling it), the same can happen when driving, so yes, I welcome those features, especially with the flexibility to set them up like I want, when I want .

My backup system works well, and will alert if a person walks behind the truck. The cross traffic sensors go off to...I always use my mirrors to back up. I only look at the cam to see how close I am to a object behind me.
As for driving, I use my mirrors for lane changing. I am just now starting to get use to the light....I had blind spot mirrors on the 12 F150. I also have the same on my GT350. So the orange dot thing I had to adjust.

The thought of having an audible notification with every passing car would be downright annoying to say the least.

However, reading though these posts, it has been suggested already, and I think this would be more useful and increase the accident avoidance potential and that is during the times an indicator is initially used to change lanes at speeds, when the system flashes the mirror light and that means there IS a vehicle back there, that there is also an chime warning. That would be just for this case. I could see that would compliment and decrease the likelihood of crossing into someone else's lane inadvertently. There could be a motorcycle hiding in the blind spot so the light and a subtle warning chime as well would doubly confirm the presence of something IS there. In this particular situation, it would be logical to me, just to know that the only time I would ever here that chime when getting ready to cross a lane, it would be a solid confirmation in addition to the flashing light LED in the mirror. Perhaps a bit redundant, but another level of confirmation would help.
