BLIS and backup warning?
To all you perfect drivers who replied that you never merge into another lane without looking into your mirrors and using your turn signals, all I can say is if you haven't yet then you probaly will one of these days and I hope you don't cause a serious accident! It did happen to me
once about seven years ago due to a moment of inattentiveness and I caused a minor accident. Fortuneately, no one was injured! It's sort of like motorcycle riders, there are those who've never had an accident, those who have, and if they ride long enough, the odds are that
at some time they will. Good luck!

I have two concerns on my 18' Lariat:
1. Is my blind spot system working correctly? The only indication of a vehicle in my blind spot is an orange light in the side mirrors and nothing more if I should happen merge into a car in my blind spot. I'm comparing this to my
wife's 2014 Mazda 6 and whenever you merge into another lane with a car in your blind spot her car gives a nice audible alarm as well as an orange warning light in the side mirror. I can't believe all Ford's system
does is show an orange warning light! Who hasn't merged into another lane and for whatever reason not looked in the side mirror? The Mazda's system seems so much better. What's the point of this system if it doesn't give off an audible alarm
if one makes a stupid mistake and doesn't look to the side when merging? I don't do this often but it happens to all of us once in a while.
Personally I feel the light is enough but you could make these comparison with a ton of vehicles eg "whenever you merge into another lane with a car in your blind spot my wifes 2014 mazda 6 only has an orange warning light and an audible alarm. Why doesn't the car take over steering and not let you merge if you don't see the light or hear the alarm like Audi's collision avoidance system? What's the point of the Mazda system if it will still let you merge into another car?"
2. No back up warning with a pedestrian crossing rear of truck when in reverse! Works fine for vehicle but no warning for a pedestrian. Again I'm comparing to wife's four year old Mazda 6 which gives a nice audible warning when
a pedestrian crosses the rear of her car within 20 feet. Tried this in our driveway and had wife walk in back of truck while in reverse and no warning at all from several distances whatsoever!

I mean you have three mirrors, a backup camera and a neck that allows you to turn your head (hopefully) and look out the rear window. How much assistance does one need to not run a person over? Some vehicles have automatic pedestrian braking. Why does Mazdas system only have an audible warning? Not trying to be an a** but driver assistance features are to aid the driver. They help mitigate the risk of human error but they aren't a substitute for being aware of your surroundings.
to some simple questions....
Mazda's has the orange alert in the mirror + an audible and the audible only sounds if you move into a lane occupied by another vehicle! And yes, I'm with all of you smart a** about being a responsible driver and would have just preferred a straight answer without so much criticism

I like the Ford BLIS system pretty much just as it is. I did drive a Nissan which had their version of BLIS, and the only difference was that the indicator lights on the Nissan were inside the car, near the mirror controls. I liked that placement better, but I've gotten used to the Ford light in the mirror. I'm very thankful that there is no audible alert with it.
My cross-traffic alert system definitely alerts to pedestrians behind my truck. Sometimes it's a little too sensitive, occasionally even a little annoying, but I still appreciate having it.
To those who insist that turning around and looking over your shoulder is something only idiots don't do, I will say that with age comes reduced range of motion in your neck. As hard as I might try, I simply cannot turn my head as far as I could when I was younger. If the complainers are lucky enough to live that long, they'll find this out for themselves. Meanwhile, I have learned to appreciate these assists. They are not an excuse for not looking around as best as you can, but they are helpful.

This really gets me worried!
Unless my wife's diet has been so remarkable and she lost so much the truck can't see her, or maybe the truck is cooking some jealousy here
Just bought a new ‘18 F-150 Lariat. While test driving I asked if the BLISTER had audible as well. Salesman told me yes and I had to configure it. Well, I should have pulled offer and ask him to show me because it does not. Got to looking at other things when we got back. Really liked the truck and with almost $15k I went ahead and bought it. My Ram Laramie had both audible and visual which really came in handy in the area I live in with tons of truck traffic. Just wish the salesman would have actually known (or if he did, told me no audible)
