I like my OEM lights but the only downside I've found is fumbling around to find the pushbutton switch in the dark. Any ideas on illuminating the switch or making it easier to find?
I painted a small white dot over the switch which is behind my bedrug. Just push the white dot on the bedrug. Failing that, middle of reverse light, 4" back works.
I installed the oem ones on my 18, and bought my 19 with them. Use them frequently.
The only issue I have is how Chris Fixx connected the ground wire. I would have terminated it with a ring and used the nut to secure it.
Agreed. That was a little strange. It will probably work forever, but seemed a bit sloppy. Maybe he didn't have a ring terminal big enough.
When he started out by connecting to the battery, I was yelling at my screen. Then he explained the fuse was out.
Me, I would have pulled the wire to the back first, done the wiring back there, then cut the wire and connected @ the battery last, but that's just me.
Not thrilled with switching to the ground, but I guess it doesn't really matter.
But that's just me being picky. Overall, I thought he did a pretty good job of demonstrating the process.
I just watched this video. Install doesn't seem too bad, and I like some of his tips, like using the existing holes for everything. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77t1UW4Qc7g
I like the magnetic switch idea, except I would put mine on my Leer top, not the tailgate. That, or I would delete the magnetic switch and have it controlled only by the push switch. Not sure I like having the switch on the ground leg, though!

He could have used a ring terminal and cut part of the ring away so that he could tighten the nut on it.
Mixed feelings on switching the ground. One benefit would be that if the wire from the magnetic switch or the switch it self gets damaged, you're not shorting the positive wire out.
Bumping this older thread to ask a question: For those that installed LED light strips under the bed rails, what did you do in the four areas of the bed where the bed walls jut out and practically touch the rails? I have a Line-X bedliner and there doesn't appear to be enough room to cram an LED strip in there.
I want to install inside the rails and not on the outside as shown in the photo.
I purchased a 2019 F150 SXT package. As you know, this is just a dressed-up base model XL. It has some of the most popular features, but it's missing many that the XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Limited have.
I have gotten a number of the things I wanted aftermarket, and I'm pretty happy with them. One thing that I see a blanked spot for is the two oval bed lights. I'm considering trying to find ones that fit the factory locations, but have a few questions
1. If your truck came with these lights, what do you think of them? Are they effective? Get in the way? Get blocked by cargo?
2. Have any of you installed them aftermarket, but in the same locations? How do they connect and switch on and off?
3. Would I do better to use rope lights under the upper lip of the bed? If any of you have done this, how do you like?
4. I'm getting a Leer truck cap. Would I be better to just make that well-illuminated?
Thanks in advance for any comments, opinions or experiences, good or bad!
no do you? I have the boxlights. do you have the s&*^^% headlights too?
I did have those s&*^^% headlights and then I got leds. Aimed them and happy with the improvement. Still not sure what that has to do with bed lighting though.
