Bed camping setup [Updated with Trip Report]
EDIT Trip report post here: https://www.f150forum.com/f118/bed-c...2/#post5684643
Finally got around to putting together my camping setup for the F150. The goal here is to basically be able to park along a trail and have camp pretty much set. I looked through lots of gear storage ideas for the bed, but all of them reduced the headroom which was a non-starter for me at 6'4".
I happened upon the cab-shelf design and really liked it conceptually, so I decided to build one for myself. The idea being that when you go to sleep you transfer the totes from being mounted under the shelf for driving, to above the shelf, allowing leg room. Additionally, you get a nice shelf for, you know holding things.
The last thing I have to solve is a better way to shelter the windows from rain than a tarp. Tarps suck.
Here's a quick video on the setup:
And some detail shots:

Great setup. If you don't mind, I'm going to steal some (or all ) of your ideas. Just got a truck last year and want to do more camping. Something I've missed doing for the last few years.

Yeah man, go for it! One tip, is to get the shelf to rotate up and in place, you'll have to radius one of the corners. I did both so it would match.

Do you have the 6.5 or 5.5 bed? I have the 6.5 and just trying to gauge size and room.

A little cold here now, so I have plenty of time to plan this out.
I also have to devise a way to stow our kayaks for our summer trip. Debating on putting everything in the cab (I have Super crew) so I won't have to build anything other than a way to keep them from bouncing on the tail gate. Or devise a way for them to be lifted in the back also so that I can put totes underneath them and leave the cab empty for items that I don't want in the back in case we run into rain as I won't be able to completely close the topper door. Before you say roof rack, I hate putting things on vehicles that can scratch or mar the finish. I don't even put stickers of any kind on. Window stickers I always fold a side over so that I can get them off when they expire.

When you say rotate up. Do you mean rotate with the back/front of the shelf up or the left/right side?
