Basic Sync Update
I have the plain Jane SYNC in my '16.
I just noticed Ford has an update available.
I downloaded the update to a USB drive.
Any advise or warnings before I attempt to install it in the truck. The old version works fine and I'm leery about messing with it.
I hate this stuff! LOL

Well...............I'm doing this as we speak (figuratively ),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Downloaded the updates to the blank 32G USB drive last night so I could begin early tomorrow..............
Tomorrow is here............Began to follow the info on the Ford Web Site to install the upgrade............
Make sure you are very sober. Make sure you have a full tank of gas and plenty of fresh air........you're gonna be in that cab a while.......
Turn your bluetooth off in your phone (iPhone for me).
Crank the motor and let it idle.
Follow the web page instructions................
Stick in the jump drive and hold on. Being sober helps....LOL...................................... .................................................. .................................................. ................................
Well, I did it. The directions don't match my menu, but I stumbled through it.
Dang! It took 40 minutes! Glad my little USB jumpdrive has a flashing light or I thought it was stuck in the mud.
Then the girly girl pretty voice says "Re-booting" and another five minutes.
Whala................ Viola'...............done.
Now you have to reinstall the phone. Delete the old SYNC off the phone first and start over like with a new phone.. Thinking of Fournier ..".....Feels like the very first time...." . Another 5 minutes
Done.
Everything seems to work fine. Seems to work much faster. Menu moves faster. Siri still works well.
So I went to the Ford web site again to confirm my completion. Now they want me to allow my Apple phone to get an APP and talk to my motor or something. That will have to wait for another day. I mean, Dang, I need to go get some gas!
Headed for the test track...................later dudes............
EDIT: The Siri thing works well. "Hey Siri, Need directions to Atlanta." Siri replies "Starting route..." The map pops up on the iPhone and Siri says "Turn right onto I-75 in 200 feet....." and so forth.
Good to go..................Tunes on my music jumpdrive seems to work.............
Thanks Mlarv for the dare to do it!!!!!!!

Guys, sort of on these lines, as I'm a boomer, not so good with anything tech, I can't seem to get my notifications for text messages or have my map apps talk to me unless I have the Bluetooth audio activated.
I want my navigation to talk to me while listening to fm radio. I am able to use the phone hands free while using the radio (radio mutes during phone calls)
I have a 2014 f150 with Sync gen 1

When updating Sync, you need to be prepared to let the update run for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Don't remove the flash drive until you get a persistent window telling you to do so. Before that, Sync will reboot at least a couple times, and you may get a message or two that last for just a few seconds telling you the update is complete. Ignore those messages.

If you want to hear nav directions from the phone instead of through your radio speakers, then go into your phone Bluetooth settings and set the connection to Sync for Calls, and turn off Media. Then you will still make calls through Sync, but your nav directions and text notifications should come from your phone's speaker (turn it up).
Being a Boomer is not an excuse - smart phones, Bluetooth and vehicle BT connections have been around for you as long as they have for the rest of us (I'm just past the tail end of the Boomer generation).

Hi everyone,
I drive a 2016 F-150 Platinum and had my OEM screen (Sync 3, 8") burn out on me. It was 3 seconds off and about a 1/2 second on flashing constantly. I was quoted $1700 by the dealership for a new OEM screen and I told them no thanks (after they took $200 to tell me what I already knew). I had been looking at the autotec aftermarket consoles. I installed the 12.1' version since the lines are cleaner and there is no overhang on my dash and have installed it and it's all running fine.... except. I can't get any audio to work. I have followed the guides that autotec provides for troubleshooting and I have sent them a few emails to see if they can help but I wanted to post the question here to see if anyone else has run into the same issue here. When looking at the console screen I cannot turn the audio on. When hitting the audio function in the console it goes to the default home screen and not the audio screen. The button is there that says audio off and will turn blue when pressed but will not do anything. I have checked and rebooted the hardware. Reset and re-set up the software to the correct system and vehicle but no luck. After going through all of the processes that were recommended I checked my sync version and it is still 1.0 and my truck does not seem to have the option to update over the air. There is literally no check for updates button on my sync build even though I'm connected to wi-fi. I've started updating manually but I do not know if this will help my audio issue at all. Anyway I read this entire thread and I appreciate all of the great ideas for customization but think I have a unique issue here and wanted to see if anyone else here had run into this or had any thoughts on what the issue might be.
Thanks in advance,
Jay
