I installed Diode Dynamics back up XP80 LED'S, lights up like the sun. Before doing this it was rather hard to see when backing up but now I see everything.

I'm very disappointed in the backup camera and display in my 17 XLT. Maybe I shoulda sprung for the Sync3. The display is so small and the resolution is a joke. My 2014 Tacoma had a larger screen with better resolution. Just venting, the rest of the truck seems OK so far at 3 weeks old.

You don't need much more light in the rear to really help out the camera for backing up at night. Any light you choose, expensive or cheap, will help significantly. I bought a good set of LED lights that I've been using for about 8 years...they are about to go on my new truck (the 3rd vehicle they will have been attached to). There are brighter lights out there, but you don't need too much more light. If the lights are too bright, they will wash out the camera as you get real close when backing up to something like a wall.

When I close my garage door, less than 6" space, the bright DD LED's don't wash out my camera and it's on a white door...

That's good to hear! I've only had my truck for a few weeks, it's my first Ford. My last 2 vehicles were Dodge and the lights washed out the camera a bit...not terribly...but enough I thought I should warn the OP to not go too bright.

Now I know I can mount up some brighter lights back there.

Here's a picture I just took. Notice the two bright white lights on the outer edges those are the back up DD LEDs, look straight down you can actually see my ford oval and the license plate lights on the bumper and the floor of my garage. The screen is much clearer in person, my phone makes it look not so good.
