Default Back Bumper removal

2015 XLT - dented the right side of the rear bumper. I purchased the replacement bumper (right side only) - for those that have replaced the bumper, do you need to remove the entire bumper, then replace the right side before mounting back on or is there a way to remove just the right side from the truck without removing the entire rear bumper?

Thanks - Adam.

You probably don't have to but it is going to be MUCH easier. I swapped mine from Silver to Chrome and couldn't imagine doing it on the truck.
Actually, now that I think more about it, I don't think the top part (step) would separate from the bumper part with it in place - it would probably hit the tailgate.

Yes I had to replace one half of my rear bumper, and it was necessary to remove the whole bumper complete with the tow hitch. It's a relatively easy project.

I changed mine to a Raptor rear bumper and did not remove the whole bumper. There are a couple of bolts that are very difficult to undo and I did mess up some clips that hold the top piece on. Even though I did have another top piece, if I have to do it again, I'll remove the whole thing. Would have been easier.

Super easy...I took mine off to paint and did by myself.

Rigged up the trailer ball mount on a floor jack to remove and install with zero drama. Once you get it off there's a bunch of bolts to remove to get them apart. There are 2 on both sides near the center that you can only remove if you have flex head ratcheting box wrench.

That's the bolts I found to be very difficult to remove. In putting back together, I reversed the way it went back together. I put the nut/bracket on top and bolt goes in from the bottom now.

That should work too.

When going back together I bolted it together without the top trim. Without the trim you can get to the center bolts easier. The last step was to snap the top trim back on.
