Default Automatic Climate Control Question

All,

Im curious what you all do on your lariat and above with auto climate, now that cold weather is setting in, do you deselect the AC button? I realize I need AC for defrost, but I also don’t want the compressor running all winter long too - If I need the truck to “cool” I’d rather it use ambient air rather than AC.

I know I’m over thinking this but I’m curious

I leave mine on auto year round and have never deselected AC. No issues to date.

Defrost mode automatically kicks in the compressor.

Actually it's best for the system to always have A/C engaged. If it's too cold the computer will not engage the compressor long enough to cause a problem. But it will allow the oil in the system to circulate occasionally keeping everything lubricated.

same here - works perfectly. Even cycles the A/C itself when needed in the winter for condensation.

I’m pretty sure if you select A/C manually with the button the system will go out of automatic mode. Just let it do it’s thing.

Another vote for generally leave it alone. Now that it’s colder here, mine hasn’t had the AC on even though it’s stayed on auto. If I really don’t want the AC but the auto system does, I go off auto mode.

Thanks for the replies. I figured it best to leave it as is but am generally curious.

How do you know if the AC is actually engaged if the button is on all the time? On mine, if I deselect the ac button, the temperate control stays the same (let’s say it’s set to 68). Mine doesn’t revert to a normal system (fan speed 1, 2 etc)

I take offense to your “lariat and above” reference as my FX4 has dual zone auto climate control and much more! Kidding aside, I only mess with the AUTO setting during long trips when I don’t wanna have to fiddle around with it repeatedly, and there’s plenty of time for the cabin temp to equilibrate.

I change from 68 in the summer to 72 in the winter; auto only. My old truck I'd also make sure floor and dash was selected in winter and straight in the face for summer. That's why it say automatic.

Huh? I think this might be apples and oranges...??

When its on, I leave it on Auto all year long... obviously, windows down I typically turn off the climate control.
