I would hope that even in the cold of winter, in the auto position, the AC compressor would not be running all the time. I do not think it runs all the time in summer. Should cycle on and off. In the Winter, I can see it cycling to keep moisture in check but surely is runs less when it is 30 degrees outside.

For my previous 16 and my current 18, it stays in auto/AC/recirc year-round. I adjust the temperature. Ford seems to have done a pretty good job and making auto Just Work (tm). I think I've had to manually select defrost maybe a half-dozen times in 3 years on 2 trucks.

My first vehicle with auto climate control was my ‘09 FX4 w/luxury package. That spoiled me - will never want to be without it again. That’s the main reason I shopped for a Lariat when I upgraded a couple months ago.
