I don't understand all the hate over the auto-stop. It's not that bad and it's so easy to control with brake pedal pressure.

That doesn't always work for mine! Been trying it for 6 months

If you really hate it there is a fix. It will cost you around $400-500. Get a tuner and some custom tunes. I recommend a 93 performance tune since you don't care about gas costs/savings anyway you can run 93 all the time. With this tune the auto start/stop is disabled. It is also disabled with the 87 eco and 87 perf/tow tunes as well, but what fun is that?

Thanks for all the replies. Guess I'll have to lift my arm and push the button, or dance on the brake pedal, or wiggle the steering wheel. At least I have options.
Thanks

There is a recent thread with a head count as to who want the auto off feature to turn of automaticly. The guy says he knows how to disable it with the option to enable basically the opposite of what we have now. Also someone said his salesman told him to just plug a clipped trailer light harness into the trailer light plug in the back. The truck will think a trailer is connected and disable auto stop.

Here are some of the options/choices for ya

1. If you set your heating or cooling to defrost, it will rarely come on (Free)
2. As someone else pointed out, if you use less break pedal pressure, that will also prevent it from coming on 95% percent of the time (Free).
3. In Tow Haul mode it will not come on. (Free)
4. The button on the dash turns it off, until next restart (Free)
5. A tuner from Sct and 5Star tunes, automatically disable it, not sure about other tuners. ($500 or so)

I want people to understand what this option is, before doing it (a lot of people leave their vehicles on defrost). "Defrost" on vehicles works by not only blowing air up at the windshield, but it runs the air conditioning compressor to get the evaporator cold, catching moisture in the air as condensation as it flows through the fins. This will cause additional wear and tear on the compressor as it cycles, but more than that, fuel economy and performance will suffer even more from this continuous drain. The air conditioner compressor is a parasitic draw on the engine, just like all the other accessories it is running. Truck owners don't typically care too much about fuel economy, but the performance impact is big enough to notice if you're the type of person that has a reasonably accurate seat-of-the-pants-dynamometer.

I wouldn't be surprised to see at least a 1mpg hit in stop and go driving in a controlled environment from using the defroster, and the percentage of performance loss equated to the amount of fuel/energy that it requires to cycle the compressor.

Faked-attached-trailer is likely the best solution.

On the Super Dutys I hated the fact the truck transmission would be in OD mode when first started.

I used to wire a relay on the OD off button, so that the logic state was reversed on start up..when I started mine the relay would enable the off state automatically.

I hated that the truck would go all the way to OD when I first start the truck in the morning driving through the neighborhood. So once I got to the highway I would kick it into OD by pressing the button.

This can be done where the 'key on' the logic state for the button would be off for the stop/start feature..

It can be done quite easily...for $5 relay...kinda like a JK flip-flop for all you Electronic gurus out there...
