Auto stop
Doubt it can be disabled permanently with some setting/switch. You can manually shift instead of using [D], keep the driver door ajar, turn on the windshield defroster, be in 4x4 mode, attach a trailer (or fool it into thinking you have), enable tow/haul mode, or select manual or sport mode.
I don't understand why the need? Yes it's a bit weird at first, but I've been driving auto-stop vehicles for about 5 years now, and it was first released on mass-produced hybrid vehicles in 1999 (the Honda Insight was primarily gas motor with electric assist, rather than the Prius being electric motor with gas assist).
The fuel savings can be huge, whether you have a 1-liter engine or a big block 460, and is why we will be seeing this on every vehicle soon. Fleet fuel economy requirements will push manufacturers to price small-engined vehicles much lower than big-engined versions just so they can get their fleet averages up. But hey, if someone wants to, soon, pay a $20k markup on a v8 model, with no other options added on, it may be an option for a couple years. Auto-stop is here to stay though, due to CAFE requirements. In 5 years time, nearly every vehicle sold new may force auto-stop. Welcome to the future!

I don't mind it being off and I think its really cool but when it starts 15 times on a trip in town I cant help but think of the wear its doing on my starter. Say I have the truck start/stop on average 10 times a day, im basically putting 10 years on the starter in 1 year.

if you get the feel for it, you can just feather the brake when stopped. it needs a certain vacuum pressure for auto stop to engage. you can get pretty good at making sure it doesn't come on.
also at first I thought leaving the seat belt off would disable it. I found this true for weeks then one day it still auto stopped when I had my seat belt off. weird
