i just bought a sync 3 with nav system on 3.4 version gj5t 14g370 cm i though it was going to be plug and play i did get the new gps antenna the power usb cable everything is connected but my steering wheel controls wont work i don't have dual climate
and i been googling for 3 days and i cant get it to work on my 2015 ford xlt currently sync 2" i have forscan life time membership and have my obd 2 cable but i cant find which parameters i need to change on the new apim also forscan shows a different vin on my apim any ideas on how to solve this issue

 

First off, hope you didn't pay much for it, thats a sh*t gen1 apim that has been hacked and whacked with software. If SYNC is showing a different VIN than your truck...your truck VIN has been altered electronically. As for the programming, contact the seller and have them correct it if it was supposed to be programmed for your vehicle. You can keep playing with the programming, ask for more help here or pay someone who knows what they are doing to provide the proper programming.

 

^ What he said. Contact whomever sold it to you if they promised programming as part of the sale. I’m assuming it was one of those eBay or Amazon listings out of China, so good luck. There’s a reason those are cheaper than reputable US sellers.

The steering wheel controls issue is more than likely because the AsBuilt is incorrect for the CAN bus switch settings. It’s in the Forscan spreadsheet under APIM.

Also not sure what you mean by dual climate controls - XLTs don’t have dual climate as far as I know.

 

I got it off facebook for 250 the guy crashed his vehicle …. So you guys are saying i made a bad purchase i was so excited of finally geti g a sync 3 for my truck 😞

 

Gen1 APIMs are notorious for having issues, so don’t be surprised if you do get it working and you experience random freezing or it dies out of the blue one day.

What vehicle did he have it in? It’s probably got wrong programming for your truck and is set up for a pre-2015 vehicle without HS3CAN, which is why it’s not reading your VIN and steering controls aren’t working.

Find a truck similarly equipped as yours that came with Sync 3 (like a late 2016/early 17) on eBay. Copy the VIN from the listing and look it up on the Motorcraft service AsBuilt site (this is covered in the Forscan thread), use those values for the APIM and that will get you 95% of the way there. Then figure out what still needs to be tweaked and use the Forscan spreadsheet to fine tune things. Alternately, if you don’t want to do the legwork, find someone on the forum to do it for you and provide you with the values to plug in to Forscan. I’m sure someone will do it for a fee.

Either way, it’s not going to be plug and play as you’d hoped. Unless a seller says they are going to program an APIM for you, chances are that it’s never going to be plug and play. Additionally, that’s why those sellers are charging $500+; you pay for their expertise and knowledge.

 

Not sure if it will help or hinder but I can send you the APIM backup from a 2019 lariat fully loaded. May have options you don't have but might help in any case. PM me your email and I can send you the file.

I got a sync 3 2019 from a xlt f150 “ now i have two apims and screens” everything works except three things voice commands steering wheel volume up down works but i cant change stations and it says navigation fault or something like that i know for a fact its not he antenna because the brand new antena works on my other sync 3 version 1 any ideas ????? In how to solved this issue?

 

it needs to be properly programmed for your vehicle.

 

Have you tried using the Forscan spreadsheet and getting AsBuilt from a similar vehicle as I suggested above, or did you just plug this one in as well hoping it would work? If you’ve tried to fix it yourself, what have you tried?
