Default another.....what random broken part is this thread

After work today I noticed this small chrome plastic piece with a metal clip on my tailgate. I don't have a clue of where it came from. I looked around and opened the tailgate and the only place I could see is that it possibly came from is inside the tailgate somewhere and fell out. I don't know what it was holding on but hope it was not very important.

I love the truck and have not even had it a month and already had a couple of small things just break or fall off?

Had a tailgate screw broken off when I took delivery of the truck and then a second one broke off on the trip home. The threads on the screw were still inside the tailgate.

Found a small rubber bumper on the rear floorboard. It came from the door and it also fell off.

I've seen a few threads on random parts just falling off or breaking and now I have this little part appear. What is going on?

noticed this on the tailgate

not sure where it broke off from

There are clips like that under the plastic cover where the carpet/vinyl meet the bottom of the door on the floor. Ford must use them everywhere.

That looks identical to the tabs that hold the front fender emblems in place. I only know that because I recently changed my emblems out for the black and red special appearance package versions. I broke one of those off removing the factory chrome emblems. That tab may be a trim retention tab of some sort, but how it could have ended up there is a complete mystery to me. The only place it might have come from would be the plastics covering the bed rails and tailgate. Do you have a tailgate step? I wonder if you do and it fell in the mechanism or got knocked out by it. (Assuming you've used the step, and assuming you have one.)

That's all I can think of.

So random, but I can't see that clip belonging to anything around the tailgate. Someone might have thrown it there. Sounds like your truck was built in a hurry, must have been a late Friday afternoon :P

are you the same fella that did the tailgate screw repair himself. You may have inadvertently loosened a badge clip.

Maybe it's a clip that a license plate bolt would mate with? You only have the top two bolts holding the plate on and none on the bottom. Pull off the plate and look at the bottom two holes...maybe it fell off one of those? Probably clips in to provide threads for the bottom two license plate mounting bolts.

Yea, I guess that must be what happened. I didn't think I touched anything but the interior screws.

BTW........check out the replacement screws my salesman at the dealer sent me. (the correct screws are .65 cent a piece) Not sure where these came from???

perfect, this may be a good thing......so when the factory Ford emblem falls off I can tell my wife that is why I needed the painted-to-match oval.

"Honey, I had to replace it. I was driving down the road and the blue one just fell off"
