I assumed it would be free. All the other updates have been previously for sync. Why do you all assume it's going to cost?

I would expect carplay and android auto to be free as well.

Its only for SYNC3 though, not SYNC2(MFT).

I just put SYNC3 in my 2016 Explorer (those still come with MFT/SYNC2). I didn't pay $2k but then again I have the equipment to mess with the programming of it. Since there is no Explorer that has SYNC3 the programming is an educated guess.

Doing the programming of SYNC3 to fit a 2015 F150 would be much easier since the 16s come with SYNC3.

The reason I decided to try it was because I couldn't pass up the price of the unit I picked up.
Did you buy a Sync3 off an F150 or are other models cross compatible? They're still very rare but if the price is right I wouldnt mind being another tester for you.

"Owners of 2016 vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 will have an opportunity to upgrade later in the year."
No statement that it will be a free upgrade, just an "opportunity".

When I emailed asking about timing and cost, someone from in vehicle systems said they have no details on timing or cost.

Looks like they announced features a bit early.

I am not a programmer but this the same layout as SYNC2 programming.

Maybe a programmer can chime in. Are they doing a combination of microsoft and blackberry?

Open1=SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G391-CK.TAR.GZ
Open2=SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G423-CJ.TAR.GZ
Options=AutoInstall,RenameLst
This just looks like the initial install script telling it what files to install and in what order. I'd be more curious on seeing whats inside those tarballs(the tar.gz files) and what its written in.

Edit: Since my car is still on order (no VIN) I have no access to either downloads (sync 2 or 3).

LoL... i have never met an honest salesman.... or salewomen. That does kinda suck that they keep changing systems and making it incompatible for upgrades. Why cant they make a universal hardware that can be upgraded with parts like cpu, ram etc....and be able to change os to anything... lol. I doubt that will ever happens.

More trouble than it's worth. They're putting more functionality in these systems. They style and size them so they don't even fit a standard size, but it doesn't seem to impact sales.
