Default Adding the remote tailgate release... Anyone done it??

Hey everyone newbie here on the site. Just picked up a 16 XLT Sport with 302A package. (picture wouldn't load) I have searched and searched but haven't come across a thread about this. At my place of work I have security checkpoints that require me to get out and lower my tailgate when I arrive because of the tonneau. I was wondering if anyone has added the remote tailgate release on a truck that had a regular setup from the factory. Mine has the power lock/unlock but not the release. I would assumer theres a thread somewhere that's already discussed this! Thanks in advance!

If you install a tailgate release (or popper as it is sometimes called), you should consider taking some action to prevent it from being popped while traveling. Perhaps use the ebrake switch or some such. It could be very bad if it was accidentally opened on the road.

Wouldn't have to close it, I could just close it once I got parked.

I think OP was looking for the OEM popper, correct? If that's the case correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think there's a button in the cabin to pop it, you would need the other style remote. It would also be worth mentioning the remote buttons don't work with the ignition on so you would have to shutoff the truck each time.

While this IS possible the cost and installation will put off most. You will need the rear tailgate radio receiver, either a new sub harness or just the pigtail, and (2) 22ga wires that will need to be run all the way to the BCM and pinned correctly for OEM operation...You will also need FORSCan to enable this feature, you will also need a new FOB with this feature and have it programmed for such operation. (Most dealerships will NOT do this for you however), so again, while it can be done OEM, it will not be easy or simple.

https://www.f150forum.com/f38/automa...lights-187407/ So I came across this on google. Not sure why the f150forum search engine didn't take me here, looks like he wired a TR7 Module inline to a trunk latch that's installed in the tailgate. The TR7 is programmed to pass voltage after it sees the unlock wire voltage 3 times in a time frame of 5 seconds. I think this may work as I already have all the wiring I would need in the tailgate or rear of the truck. I wasn't aware that the remote unlock/lock buttons did not work while in the ignition, but with this setup, hitting the unlock button on the door inside the truck 3 times would actuate the tailgate solenoid too if its wired this way.
