Default Adding a Key FOB

I'm new here and researched a good bit, but I wanted to make sure this is right before I go spend $100+.

I have a 2015 F150 that came with only 1 key(bought it slightly used). I bought a key off of Ebay and had the dealer cut it for me. It works on the glovebox and doors, but not ignition.

Since I only have 1 key, the only way that I am going to get this key to work in the ignition is to take it to the dealer..right??

If that's correct, then once I have 2 keys, I will be able to add a 3rd key myself following the manual's directions.

Thanks

You would be correct, once you have two keys you can program the third one yourself, but with only one you have to take it to the dealer (or someone with IDS) for programming

Look for a local locksmith educated in automotive keys and security. When my dealer replaced the PCM in my Ranger in 2004 they only programmed one of the keys and said the second key wasn't covered under warranty, wanted $200+. Found a locksmith to do it for $20, had it done in about 15 minutes while I watched. Last summer same guy cut and programmed a third key for my 2015 (switchblade style key) for $120, dealer wanted $250.

I went to one local guy and he wanted $75 to cut an OEM key that I bought on Ebay, then around $100 to program it. He said bc it was laser cut, that's why it was so expensive.

Took the key to the dealer and he cut it for $10. Going to call around tomorrow and see who can do it for less.

$100 to program it? you can program it yourself with the two factory keys.
