The A119 uses an external power transformer (albeit tiny). You would pop the small cover off just above the mirror, and tap in to + -. Once you unplug the mirror harness from the headliner plug it's very easy to work with. This will be switched with the ignition so you won't get parking features. But you wont have to run down the A-pillar to the fuse box or take anything else apart. I think you could find room for the little power adapter up there. The Blackvue doesnt use an external transformer.

I did not take a picture after tapping the green - and black + wires but the posi-taps are much better than the old 3M style ones. The whole thing was no hassle. I put off installing the camera for months, had i known it was going to be so easy I would have done it sooner.

Also, I attempted to run the wire over the rear window but the way the headliner is I couldnt get it to stay. I went under the window behind the seats. You will save wire, if you run the wire down drivers side since the rear camera needs to end up on that side because of sliding glass. (didnt dawn on me until I got back there)

Boostedgreygoose said he could probably make a custom plug & play connector on request that would plug between the mirror harness and headliner plug with 12v pigtails. Prob not cheap, had I known I would have asked him for one.

I like the form of the A119, the blackvue style looks kind of bulky and out of place when getting in from passenger seat. I can't see it so it doesnt bother me too much, im happy with its features, and picture. Yes, it will record in loop, 3 minute clips for several hours, and it has impact sensing (i believe the A119 has this as well).

I don’t have the plastic housing above my mirror. Mine looks like hotdogtacos above. Sounds like the blackvue would be easier? Thanks for the help!

argh, someone with more knowledge than me will have to come by. You may have to run down the A-Pillar to the fuse block in the passenger kick panel. I wanted to avoid being near the aig bag and removing a-pillar trim. If you have to go down the A-pillar you'll have tons of space for the external transformer in the kick panel. The Blackvue 900 has a nasty reputation for overheating, but their 700 600 series do not. I don't think you can go wrong with A119. I feel like Blackvue is overpriced, but i just wanted a change after using two A119s for so many years.

This is what I did. The voltage regulator is in the headliner right above the camera. If you're tapping a fused point in the passenger kick panel, I don't see the benefit of this dash cam over any of the many other cameras available.

Going down to OBDII probably lets it pick up speed data or ignition control so it can change modes between motion only when vehicle is off and full-time capture while on.

Ok so I ordered that kit and an A119v3. Guess I’ll update next week how it goes.

Will rear defrosters get in the way if you install front & rear dashcams? I'd wanna remove the tint and am wondering how hard that'll be if there's rear defroster wires lining the rear windshield.

Mercylion A30 dual channel factory-fitted dashcam user here. Love it. It has a parking mode, strong 2k image that is better than most (esp the LR camera system) and functionality that turns it off below a certain voltage in parking mode.
