Default Adding Dash Speaker?

So I was taking my dash apart to install my brake controller and I found this plug plugged into the bottom of the plastic tray on the top of the dash. And I found it's for a speaker that comes in the dash on some trucks.

So, if I bought the speaker that goes here and the correct plastic tray that mounts with the speaker......can I just plug it in? I'm looking to install a sub or anything. But if there's plugs sitting there plugged into nothing sitting around my truck to add more speakers, this would be an easy mod.

I doubt the head end is set up for it on your truck. I would think B&O system only. It's probably cheaper for Ford to have one wiring harness and use it on everything.

Honestly, I bet you can. It is 1 Forscan setting away from being enabled. I turned on factory sub and just bought the part to connect a subwoofer to the factory pig tail.

Really? I thought the factory subwoofer involved a lot of wiring and wasn't just plug and play?

I'm currently trying to upgrade the things I don't have and that are easy to upgrade. If there is a plug there sitting doing nothing....id like to get the part it goes to to plug in and "complete" and upgrade the truck. Like the brake controller I just installed. There's a plug pre-wired there just sitting there plugged into a plastic tray. That coin tray looked goofy.

This is what I'm wondering. If I can just buy the tray with the speaker and speaker cover and plug it in, I'll do it.....anything more, it's not a big enough deal for me.

Can you check the wiring with the radio on and a VOM meter?

x2, use a volt meter set on A/C to see if there is an audio signal. I'm pretty sure the plug is active and you can hook up a centre speaker. Also just a FYI but the stock centre speaker is $5 from a Ford Dealer so it's cheap to try.

$5 yes but that tray, the grill and the rubber insert mat all cost $65 or so.

Well if I can confirm that this works then $65 isn't too bad. Is there anywhere else in the sound system on the truck that there's a plug sitting there like this?

I have a super crew cab XLT. I know I have 4 door speakers and two tweeters in the front windshield pillars. So I guess that's the 6 speaker sound system? And adding the center speaker would upgrade it to the 7 speaker sound system?

Why do you want a speaker in the middle of the dash ? Worse idea ever from an audiophile perspective. Throws off separation and soundstage.
