It usually only happens to people with two left feet.

The thing that bothers me about un-intended acceleration claims, what is wrong with the brakes? The fronts easily will hold a stopped vehicle even with the rear tires spinning away. That is common at the dragstrip aka the burnout. KM

I've had times where my truck downshifted while braking and it felt like a surge. But in this case, it sounds like the OP was already stopped?

+1 this is what I suspect is happening. It's possible some people get panicked by the perceived loss of braking when the trans downshifts.

@FordGate Yep, might be. When I'm coming out of the parking garage at work, my truck downshifts and I think I'm going to go right through the gate.

Has anyone else had this happen, or have any idea what caused it.

If you can't spell pedal then you can't detect pushing both pedals at once.

I had this happen twice on my 2010 on the 3rd time I was yep look at my foot on both pedals at the same time.

The only way the engine can accelerate is to get more intake air, assuming there is Gas to mix with the air.
Either by foot or a fault that opens the throttle plate or an intake air leak.
The MAP Sensor detects the change in manifold vacuum to add the fuel.
