Default AC recirculate actuator

2016 Lariat w/dual auto climate controls. I've been noticing the AC recirculate has been sounding different lately, intermittent off and on regardless if the recir was turned on or not. I've checked, and cleared codes several times, and these are reoccurring. It would seem the recirculation actuator is failing. I believe there are 3 actuators that control blend and recirculation functions. Would someone kindly point me to the location of the one that is failing ? I'm hoping it is one that is accessible through the front of the dash, and not one that requires dash removal!! Thanks in advance for the help.

Thank you! That looks like the one. Looks to be a $25 part... now if I can just get to it! Thanks again.

Item 3, I’m pretty sure is not accessible without dash removal. Sorry for the bad news.

I sure hope you're wrong about the dash removal!! I did a bunch of interweb searches this afternoon, and only found a few references to recirculate actuators, and those were all previous generation trucks. I still have a year or so left on the full Ford extended warranty, so I might find out if this repair is covered for the $100 co-pay (if the dash has to come out). I sure wouldn't want some flat rate mechanic tearing the dash out of my pristine truck. I special ordered it, and it still looks new... It's been to a dealer once for a door lock recall, and they managed to scratch a door panel doing that simple procedure.

Thanks for your help.

52 merc, thank you! I would never attempt this without the doc's you provided. If I could be so bold as to ask if you have the console removal instructions also? Seems unreasonable to have to gut 90% of the interior to replace a $25 part... but it is what it is. I'm thinking I'll wait for a complete failure before this little project gets done!

If anyone has actually done this, please jump in with any tips or tricks. Thanks again for the invaluable info!

Looks like a lot of time seeing and reading all of 52merc's post #6 including the attachments plus even worse now adding in his additions attachments in post #8. Makes me wonder how many hours are required to do the job , any one know just for curiosity. Sure hope OP has the warranty that covers electrical.
