Default 5.0 Engine Failure

I have a 2015 5.0 and at 64000 miles the rings in one cylinder went. They replaced the engine but Ford will not let me get a warranty on it. Luckily when I started it one morning I was looking at the passenger side view mirror and saw a puff of blue smoke for a second come out of the exhaust pipe. I feel this could be happening to many others but they just don’t know it.

How far have you escalated getting it covered under warranty? Or did you mean they covered it but won’t warranty the new engine?

I know a lot of dealers automatically deny stuff based on the black and white but sometimes manufacturers will cover stuff when it’s just outside the warranty period.

Well i guess the reason i was asking, I saw a puff of blue smoke on mine one morning but i just thought it was the low tension piston rings and they would expand once at operating temperature. The truck runs fine and doesn't burn much oil. maybe half a quart every 5k miles.

Did not have to argue much. The extended warranty on truck is for another year. That’s all I’ll get for the new engine. It didn’t seem to burn oil. They had to run several tests to verify. Watch your exhaust pipe on your first start up after sitting over night. Watch it everyday because it doesn’t do it every time. They told me it happens to the eco boosts engines but usually it’s the pvc value.

just so i understand, you had the blue smoke on start up and took it in. They told you cylinder 6 was low on compression and replaced your engine. The new engine is running fine and has no problems?

Default Engine Failure

Saw smoke and took it in. Compression test passed. Other test showed oil getting passed piston therefore assuming ring failure. Don’t remember which cylinder. New engine seems fine.
