Default 4x4 Problem!

Took truck in to dealer for grinding noise when in 4H - seems to only happen when going up an incline, not when on level pavement. Took it to dealer, they said 'sound is normal' - but i doubt they heard it, unless they drove it up a ramp.

Not only does it grind, but it feels like it the trans is slipping - any suggestions? Have a video with sound, but at 12Mb cannot upload it.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a 4x4 when on dry pavement. Mine does this also.

But mine also does this when in gravel and on rutted dirt roads - the grinding noise is very disconcerting. Here is a lower resolution video - this can't be normal!

No, that doesn't sound normal to me.

No, that's not normal. That said, you shouldn't be running 4H on dry pavement.

You can run 4H on dry, turning will mess up your tires though... I put it in 4H for a mile or two almost every time I have it out on a straight road by my house. Helps keep the actuators actuating and other stuff all lubed up...

Technically, no, but as long as you aren't turning it's not a big deal.

Not normal by any stretch. Wish the video was a bit longer. Pull the power to the 4X4 solenoid, but don't put it in 4X4. See what it sounds like then. Odd it only happens on slopes in 4X4.
How about some truck specs, year, trim level would be helpful to help you.

Nope, not normal at all. I would go on a test drive with them and point it out.

After listening to the video sounds like a problem have you check for vacuum leak. Have you had any work done on hubs. Could be a loose vacuum line. I had that happen on a older 4x4
