Default 36 Gallon Tank Swap!

I'm hoping this can be a one stop shop for anyone trying to do this swap. So here it goes!

I looked at this about a year ago but couldn't justify the swap personally if i had to pay $600-700 to do it. Well I got the itch again recently and started looking on salvage parts searches online. After probably 20-30 phone calls to different yards around DFW to see if these tanks still had the heat shield and were actually the 36 gallon tank, I finally found one! It was also only $120 with the head shield intact so I obviously pounced on that!

I picked it up Friday and I'm just waiting on the new fuel pump to come in from Tasca. I ordered it after i picked up the tank Friday so I'm hoping it is here the beginning of next week. It looks like they had to special order it so we'll see.

If I can pull this off for $268 I'll be thrilled:
- 36 Gallon tank = $129
- New fuel pump = $ 139

Things I found in my research are below:
- 36 gallon tank is the same on all truck configurations except the 122in WB (single cab, short bed)
- fuel pump varies, for my 2016 3.5 Ecoboost the part number is FL3Z-9H307-N
- it is possible to change the DTE in FOREScan. ( 720-03-01 xxx5 54xx xxxx )

Threads that really helped me with this process are below:

YouTube Videos for swap and FOREScan:

Here's a few pics of the tank I found. Hoping to get this installed ASAP and I will update once i get the fuel pump!

Good luck with the swap. You shouldn't have any problems assuming the parts you got are correct. The Forscan changes are easy, you will definitely like having the bigger tank. In my opinion they shouldn't even offer the smaller one on these trucks.

I love my bigger tank. Like you I found one in a salvage yard for ~$100. The worst part is getting the filler tube back on in my experience.

Will it fit on a scab raptor with 5 foot bed? Seems like it would have been a option if it would.

I had to get the limit raised on my credit card to fill that 36 gallon tank!

from a 1/4 tank it costs me about $65 to fill up. but I fill up 1 time a week. with my 2016 and the 23 gallon tank I would fill up 3 times a week at 35 each from 1/4 tank.
13 gallons larger makes that much of a usage difference.

Would love this, but not sure I want to wrestle with it. I'm getting too old for that, haha. How much shop labor do you think this is if I show up with all the parts?

About 1 hour of labor. Call around local shops for their labor rate. Maybe even offer to let them keep old tank and pump for some money off.

I haven't come across anyone using it in that scenario. I'm not much help there.
