3.5 vs 2.7
All engines have problems, none stand out particular. Just pick the engine that does what you need, and feels right when you do a test drive and you're good.
For what it's worth, my 2.7 has 94k with no issues other than a failed crankcase pressure sensor last month (rare but easy fix). And I tow a 5000lb camper and 7500lb boat. Great mileage when not towing so I'm very happy.

Depends on your use. The 2.7 is enough for most truck buyers and returns a better mpg by about 2-3 in 4x4 trucks. The only reason I can see getting a 3.5 over a 2.7 is if the 2.7 Payload Package is not available in your trim or other special uses. The 2.7 with the Payload Package can pull just about all that most halfton users tow.
Other than that, it’s personal preference IMO.

Mine (in case you're on mobile) : 2015 F150 XLT SCrew Sport 4x4 | 302A | FX4 | 2.7L EB | Payload & Tow Pkgs | 3.73 Diff Lock | Navi | Moonroof
Notice the payload package with all the options. I also have the tailgate step and side steps. My payload is 1620 lbs.
The 2.7 will handle a large chunk of F150 buyers. If you tow heavier or need the payload capability, then the 3.5 makes more sense.
I don't tow heavy, only up to about 4500 lbs a few times a year. My 2.7 powered truck handles it light years better than my 04 5.4 equipped F150. It also delivers 4.5 mpg better overall in the exact same use. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.
After that, go drive them. Once I did I was sold on the 2.7 based on my needs.

This whole 3.5 is the "towing engine" is such a huge misnomer. Yes it can tow the most but that is because it makes the most torque with a massively flat torque band. It's a by product.
The 3.5 is also for those that want the most powerful engine in the lineup because yes a lot of people want to be able to haul *** even in a big truck. With so much torque across the power band, starting at a low RPM, the 3.5 is effortlessly fast in day to day stop and go traffic without having to get into the throttle.
Lots of attributes that make the 3.5 as popular as it is.

All around it does these the best. Whatever side of the engine fence you are on, this can't be argued.
