Default 2O18 Sync 3 hard reset

So yeah mobile search didn’t bring back squat except for older gen trucks.
8” sync 3 in a platinum. Worked great for a year, now the screen and ***** freeze occasionally. Can’t change volume, station switch screens nothing. It does however once it finds itself cycle through every button I pressed.
Tried the master reset in menu that doesn’t do much, still holds much of the memory. Pulled battery cable for an hour last weekend, still acts out. Started couple months ago and it comes and goes.
any ideas on how to truly reset this thing. I hate trips to the dealer. Thanks

APIM is probably going bad. Disconnecting the battery is about a hard reset your going to get.

Thanks, I'll have to video tape it for the dealer. I absolutely dislike going to dealers wasting my time and they just shrug and say looks good to me, it must not have happened

Dave, Did you come up with anything on the Sync 3 display issues? Mine is doing the same thing, tried doing the master reset 3 times, issues come and go, once the backup camera wouldn't come on. Feel the same way about dealer visits. Thanks for any info.

No, I've just had to deal with it. I don't have time for dealers. If it gets worse I will have to

So I switched to the home screen 5 minutes away from work and the circle was still spinning on the nav. I never use the nav and hardly go to the home screen. The nav seemed to be looking for a signal. Shut the truck down. Waited and restarted. In an open parking lot. (Park in garage at work). Anyway it found a signal and the deck didn’t freeze anymore. I normally start up and just go but will try this to see if it stops freezing. Doesn’t explain why the 1st year it was fine. Dunno

I had the exact same thing happening two months ago. Took it to my dealer and based on the codes, they determined the APIM was going bad. They replaced it two weeks ago. No issues since.

Yep, you've got a dying APIM. I had one die in my 2016, and I've got one dying right now in my 2018. When you take it in, if no hard fault codes are present, they'll just reflash it and master reset it... and, most likely, the concern will still be present. So you'll get to go in, pick the truck up, say "look dumbass, it's still doing the same thing", and put it back in the shop for round 2.

So here’s what I think might be a problem. I have some forscan changes over a year ago. My old laptop died and no backup files. My changes had nothing to do with anything in the radio but afraid they will tell me no warranty. Anyone else get by without getting slammed for forscan?

You can always download the as-builts and dump them back in. That said, my 2016 went it (twice, grumble) for a dying APIM with all sorts of Forscan changes. They didn't say a word, and I *highly* doubt they even checked. Twiddling a bit with Forscan is a whole different world from tuning the engine to produce more power, etc.

In short, I wouldn't sweat it.
