Mind-boggling that Ford charges this much money for something I can get for free (and works better) on any handheld device. Maybe I'm missing the benefit of Ford's version since I don't ever use it, but I've always managed to make it to my destination using my phone

They give detailed download and installation instructions on the download page. Follow them to the letter, one by one. Don't skip any steps. Make sure your license file is in the SyncMyRide folder with the rest of the update. Make sure nothing else is plugged into your dash USB ports before you plug in the update USB drive.

When you install, the screen will say software is updating, and Sync will reboot a few times. Wait until you get a persistent notice that the installation is complete and you can remove the USB drive, before removing it or turning off the ignition. It will take a couple hours, so do it during a long drive. If you interrupt the installation, you have to repeat it from the beginning.

I bought my truck in Feb of 2020 and was told I would have 5 years of free updates. Now it seems everyone has forgotten that - the sales manager said, 'I don't know anything about any map updates' - the SALES MANAGER! I say this because I was calling and emailing everyone because I still have some time left on my 5 years, but the Ford site shows only for me to purchase the latest map update. When I called ALOM they said I had 2 downloads on my record there. Now here in this thread I read that you only get 2 free map updates? I didn't realize that. So, my question is this: You use this Cyan Labs. I read about this in another thread; does this work seamlessly with my Sync 3? or do I need to do anything else, but make a USB like I do for the Ford files? I thank you for any further info you can offer. I don't want to mess up my system, I just updated my Sync 3, but didn't really want to throw out for maps.

Follow the instructions to the letter on the Cyan site. Pay attention to the fact if you have a 2020 MY as the update will not work for you and could harm to your system.

You’ll end up with a USB stick exactly like you would if downloading from Ford. Then follow the normal update instructions…insert USB, let it do its thing…it’ll take a while, so be prepared to sit with the engine running, use a battery charger, go for a long drive or something similar. Either way you approach it, the truck needs to stay active in ACC or running for the duration of the update.

Yep. I was surprised to get any... my first vehicle with nav was DVD-based, and new DVDs were something like $200 from a dealer (but $60 on Ebay). Maybe nav was confused with Sirius Travel Link, which is 5 years.

Dangit! I was going to look at this today. Thanks for the heads up.

My last truck was a 1998, had 232k on it when the frame came apart - time for another one! Anyway, no nav in it, so this is all new to me; after 21.5 years things change in the auto world! I think you are right, they tell you a big long string of stuff when trying to sell you a new truck and it all becomes a jumble til its all over with. So, that is what I was thinking, maybe I mixed it all up somehow because I know by looking at my subscription that the Sirius stuff is for 5 years. Maybe the map stuff was kind of glossed over or got lost in the conversation, especially since it was all new tech to me in a truck. Thanks for your thoughts!

Thank you for your information! I am perhaps way behind on tech, but please explain what the '2020 MY' is, and how I would determine if my truck has this? I sure do not want to mess up something on my truck! Thank you!

If your truck was built in 2020, it has a MY20 APIM. If it was recently changed or repaired by the dealership you probably have a my 20 , and if your truck is a 2015 to 2019 model, you don't have a MY20. Either way, it can be repaired if you have a MY20.
